I wanna give self-hypnosis a shot and use it to finally overcome my little anxiety problem and my fears of approaching women and generally to become more outgoing. I wanna start a bootcamp, but right now I think chances are I`d fail at it, so I wanna get into self-hypnosis before and use it as some sorta back up. If anyone can help me with that and/or is familiar with self-hypnosis (im no total stranger to it either) holla please. Any sort of advice/experience is appreciated! I have 2 and a half months off right now and wanna use them to finally make a change in my life.

I don't know much about self-hypnosis but cognitive therapy, which you can do yourself, has been helpful for many people with anxiety problems.

There is a book called: The Feeling Good Book by David Burns

(Authors name is important as there are many volumes named the same by different authors.)

This book is not a bible and even I do not take every word for law, but it does offer good advice on how to be more mindful or more in the moment. Oft time, that is an incredible help for people who suffer from anxiety.

Do you honestly think reading a book on getting rid of nervousness during public speaking will get rid of that fear?

NO! Doing many speeches WILL get rid of the fear of public speaking.

Reading, or hyponising yourself won't get rid of your fear of approaching.

APPROACHING will get rid of your FEAR of APPROACHING.

Yeah, I have a fear of falling to my death from the top of the Empire State building, so should I just jump off of it several times to overcome my fear? I know it's exaggerated but attacking the symptoms of fear will not relieve you of the fear.

Thegamedontwait, may be wary of approaching women but I do not think that is his fear. I think he is concerned with knowing what to say, how to convey interest and basically not to be rebuffed. It's basically a confidence issue. Solve that fear and many others will be taken care of also, approaching women and possibly even speaking in public in large groups.

I suggest working on your confidence. I haven't read "The Feeling Good Book" but it couldn't hurt to take a look at it. I suggest looking into Neuro Linguistic Programing (NLP). It could be considered a form of hypnosis. I know of people who were able to re-focus their fears in as little as a few minutes using NLP.

Thanks for your input..but when did I mention "public speaking"?

Anyways I get your point. If you do something your fear of it will probably decrease. But from what Ive learned you have to do it many times and thats pretty hard when u cant really get yourself to even do it once.

Besides I think its a bit small-minded to diss self-hypnosis like that if its been proven to work. I dont think itll take away all my fears, but I think it might be a big help. Besides just reading a book will of course not help me solve my problems, Im talkin but reading that book over again so I can practice self-hypnosis properly, reduce my fears and then finally get my ass to approach and everything.

It's in fact, very similar to NLP.

Trust me dude, I have been there. All the confidence tapes, hyponsis treatment or whatever will NOT prepare you for the anxiety that you will feel when you do your FIRST cold approach.

You are better off spending the reading time doing cold approaches.

attacking the symptoms of fear will not relieve you of the fear.

I KNOW it will in this particular scenario. My wing used to have a MASSIVE fear of approaching. Now he doesn't. Why? Because he is out there doing approaches. Several of my other friends got over the same fear with the same method.

I think he is concerned with knowing what to say, how to convey interest and basically not to be rebuffed.

That comes with EXPERIENCE. Knowing every line, every comeback will not help because it is all THEORY in his head.

Rebuffed is GOOD. It shows that you have done something wrong, and fix so he can be a step CLOSER to his goal.
