I wondered why the focus was on the guy being black too...I mean...what difference does it make what race he was? He was a much bigger guy. It was the same deal when I told what happened to my fiance'. I'm white. No one involved in the fight over the woman was black...it happened in lily-white Vermont...in a very tiny town without a single traffic light. Violence happens everywhere and in every race and group of people. It only happens more in cities because there are more people there to be violent with each other.Cash said:This must be a record for the amount of times 'black guy' has been used in one thread.
What happend to just 'big guy'? lol
It's just stereotyping...and wasn't even intentional or thought about. For some reason a lot of white people are scared to death of black men. Probably because they are in part convinced that black men are more likely to be violent than white men and in part out of fear of looking like a bigot or people thinking if a white person has a problem with the behavior of a black person that it's just because of race. Regarding the second reason, I've faced that myself. One time a black guy took my mother's chair while she was in the bathroom and I told him he couldn't just take the chair without asking first. He accused me of being racist and I told him "Nah, I'm not a racist...I'd give you the chair if my Mom wasn't already sitting in it...she's in the bathroom. And it's rude to just take a chair without asking because someone else might already be using it." I think lots of white people have experienced things like this and it possibly contributes to why so many people seem so focused on the fact that the big guy also happened to be black. Just as white folks have unfair stereotypes about black folks it does work both ways...and that's how the subconscious racial comments slip out. I guess you'll have that sometimes, lol.
