american post office on weekends questions

if i mail something in (a card) on a weekend, when will they deliver it? i htink it's monday, just want to make sure.
the general delivery time is 2 days, yes?
does it matter whether i give it to the post office myself, or just drop it in one of those blue containers on the street?

with internet, i really never have used the mailing system much so excuse the ignorance

Only priority mail is 2-3 days. Regular mail is more like 3-5. If you mailed it before they collected on Saturday, then that counts as one day. If you missed the last collection time on Saturday, then it goes out Monday night and that is day one.

thanks for the response. if saturday is the cutoff day and i mail before they collect, monday would theoretically be day 3, right?
and by regular mail, you are referring to the free one with no additional cost?

no , if you mail it saturday before they collect, that is day one and monday is day two because sunday is closed.
if you mail it after collection on saturday, monday is day one.

I was about to say that Sundays they are closed along with most of their operations.

Regular mail is the 'normal' kind with a simple stamp. Priority mail costs a couple extra bucks.
