"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

Last week, I went to the mall and I went into video store. I was in the anime section and this girl comes up to me and asks me what my favorite anime is. She is one of the employees at the store. So we were talking, I'm thinking to myself, I'm going to ask her for her number. Then she mentions that she met her boyfriend because of an anime. I think "oh ****, not gonna bother." So in a little while I left.

This is where the story should end but I told this story to some of my friends and they told me that she was dropping hints that she wanted me to get her number from her.

That just confused me.

Now, I'm unsure. So what do you guys think.

Was she dropping hints and that I should have gotten her number?

Or that I made the right choice by leaving.

"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

The only hints she was giving you was telling you that she has a boyfriend and she's probably not interested in you that way. She was probably just being friendly, afterall she is an employee. Maybe during the conversation you said something that rubbed her the wrong way or implied that you are interested in her and she wanted you to know right then in there she is already with someone.

You did the right thing.

Dude WTF. You should of told her your favorite anime. Mine is probaly Chobits though I only read the manga. I also love cowboy Bebop. But yeah she probaly wanted to discuss anime or soemthing related with you. You should of just chatted instead of walking away. She would of probaly asked for your number and if she didn't, well she works there and you could of gone back and chatted her up some more.

I think I may have been a bit unclear of what we talked about. And since that is important, I'll post it.

She asks me if I like anime. I say yes and she asks me which one I liked. I reply with Neon Genesis Evangelion. It turns out she is a fan of it as well. She's talking about what she thought of it and I find myself impressed. It's not often I meet an NGE fan who has their **** together. So we continued our discussion, and we touched upon many different topics. Such as how Naruto is everywhere these days, How much Inuyasha sucks and how awesome DragonBall Z is. She likes DBZ. Now at this time I was feeling pretty good. I was having a good conversation with a cute girl. So we kept on talking, and Cowboy Bebop came up. I had never been much of a fan of Cowboy Bebop and I tell her that I didn't really like it. She tells me that she really liked it but is biased because she met her boyfriend because of it.

Oh ok I'm sorry. lol. Well like then you did ok. Next time you go back just start talking to her again. But if she has a BF then she probaly aint worth trying to pick up. You will probaly not get her number. lol. but you can try. My friends have told me that Neon Genesis Evangelion is great. I have never seen it.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.
