I couldnt spot anything in the vaults about this so putting it out on the board.

With so much protein and little carbs in my diet while losing body fat, my body's demand for some sugar seems to sky rocket, namely some chocolate. Surely its not healthy to be cutting out sugar from my intake completely? I dont want to end up a diabetic.

so what is recommended i eat to get the neccessary sugar needed without harming my cutting up?

Also, i read somewhere today that wholemeal should in all my meals. Is this (carbs) recommended when trying to cut body fat?

Thanks as always

fwiw, I feel your pain. I am trying to cut out carbs for a couple weeks to cut weight for a fight. I don't really need carbs...I just need beer.

Lately I eat mostly raw broccoli, cabbage, eggs, lean chicken and beef. The fat is dropping off, but I am gaining enough muscle to not be losing much weight. Stupid heavy muscle...

Try to consume whatever carbs you do eat within 4-6 hours after doing some kind of cardio; the more intense, the better. That is your 'carb window.' btw I am no body builder, but this is what fighters and wrestlers do to maximize lean mass.

Carbs are not required by the body. A lack of carbs isn't going to cause diabetes. It's the opposite of everyone in western countries eating nonstop sugars all day causing crazy spikes in blood glucose levels. The body has several other ways of creating glucose without needing carb ingestion.

You can replenish muscle glycogen levels using glutamine and glycine in pre and post workout drinks, if you want to avoid carbs altogether. The first time i read about this was from Christian Thibadeau and I think I read Poliquin mention it before if you want to Google it and get all anal.

But really I don't see the issue of just having carbs pre or post workout and let that be that. Just use a reasonable amount. Make it chocolate if you want.

In general I'd recommend to get most of the carb intake after the workout, then you can cheat with candy (preferably something with really quick sugar and low fat content). Insulin spikes doesn't matter all that much after the workout since you WANT to get that glucose into your cells quickly (insulin is the hormone who signals that glucose should be taken into cells). So when cutting up I saw the postworkout window as a chance to get a bag of sugar rich candy in without "cheating".
