I refused because I felt that once I have her keys, I would somehow be attached to her with no easy exist if need be. Also, it would make me obliged to visit her house, which is what she obviously wanted. What do you think?

Whatever it is I'd question my take on this situation becasue I've never experienced it before. I speculate that you're right and it is a controlling guesture on her part. Knowing how guys are, wanting sex alot and all, she's probably thinking if I'll give him sex whenever he wants it he'll fall into a commited relationship with me by default. You'd be coming over and hanging out at her place while she's not there and stuff, kind of a prelude to a move in.

On the weaker end she could be showing you she's surrendering to you. Along the lines of "whatever you want you can have, you're the boss" kind of thing. By surrendering to you she's put the ball in your court to decide where you want the relationship to go, asking you if you want a serious relationship without saying the words. Since you gave her back the keys, then you could of protraited the message that you're not interested in commiting to her just yet. Which could work because thou she's doubtlessly a bit fustrated, you didn't up and leave her or anything and she's thankful for that. So she'll wait around, but be prepared to discuss reasons why you turned down her offer later.

Of course this is all just speculation on my part. Since I've got no experience on the subject, nor have I ever encountered anyone who has, my thoughts are just pure speculation and don't have to be taken seriously.

This isn't really a controlling trick. It's a sign of comfort. She's comfortable enough with you to let you have a set of keys to her house.
