I have decided to challenge myself to 30 days without watching television, movies, or porn. I am tired of wasting my life. My time on earth is short, and I am always striving to make the best of it. I do enjoy these things and they could be used healthily, but too often I find a 30 minute show turning into a 3 hour marathon and I hate it. At one job I work with a good deal of addicts and I realize how easy it is to loose control over something desirable, and sometimes the best method is to abstain entirely.

There will be challenges I know, particularly when I am extremely stressed, and when people leave the tv on in a room where I need to work. With 2 jobs, a girlfriend, launching a business, and an absurd amount of hobbies, I just do not have the time to waste on any of that crap.

I will try to write on here as I progress and am tempted, which will no doubt be often. I would like to say I have been television, movie, and porn free by March 2. I am allowing the superbowl and hockey but sports have never been a problem for me.

Aye good luck,

Part of that 3 hours could be spent exercising. Does watching p90x videos constitute watching tv for you?

What will you do instead of this? What will you substitute the activity of watching tv with?

After 30 days, all you can tell us is you were tv free.

So what? Maybe you can read a book per week, or start a blog or start an online business or start working out etc.

I'd like to know that you have a plan to do instead of watching tv.

Wanna know how to really quit watching movies, tv and porn? Go broke. I have no cable, no internet and only a handful of dvds that I've watched a thousand times. I read books now.

I am so busy trying to keep a roof over my head that I have no time for entertainment. Hell I'm on a no fapping (jerking off) kick just because by the time I get in the bed I fall asleep right away knowing that I have to be up in 5-6 hours. My only vice? Internet at the office. I'll surf my favorite boards and chat way to much in them. Sort of like I'm doing right now. Dammit. Okay. Time to get back to work.

Good luck man. Just remind yourself often of what you are doing and why. It takes 30 days to create new habits, so you have to stay vigilant.

Thanks for the encouragement, I'll need it. I would not consider P90x tv, but I am a common fixture of a local gym and Krav Maga courses, so I won't be adding P90x anytime soon. My intent in this action is not to avoid all these multimedia outlets, but to strike a blow to their power over me, and the habit of losing hours of my day wasted to them.

As for what I will do with my time; I am in the process of starting a business and I have a number of hobbies and friends that are constantly competing for time anyway, so I hope to be able to devote more time to the business, hobbies, and guitar.

Life is short. If I live 100 years, which I will most likely not, I have already spent a quarter of that time. Now is the chance to really make each day count, and damn*t I want to do it.

Even now I had a "lazy" day; working a few hours, spending time with the lady, and enjoying a superbowl party. I'm finishing a few chores scheduled for tomorrow, but the urge to put on a movie and zone is quite powerful. Not tonight you mechanical f*cker.

Nice idea. I think I'm going to try it starting tomorrow Monday Feb 6th.

No Video Games/Television shows for 30 days. Limit internet time to 90 minutes a day.

Replace time doing those activities with : Reading, Drawing, exercising, and hopefully socializing :)

I know what you mean with the 'treading water' feeling Retro. Stay strong bro. I noticed I really crave media when I hit a rough patch in an endeavor or my business, but the trick is to simply move on to the next task or solution. Like now...

Back to work!

As I get older I am gradually becoming more of a morning person. It is amazing how much you can get done before 10 am when you're out of bed at 630. I used to roll groggily out of bed at 930-10 on my days off, surf the web for 3 hours, and wonder why I never got anything done.

I've also eliminated porn. In doing so I've lost the taste for it. Also lost the taste for wanking...only useful when I'm about to boil over.

You think you'll feel better if you just indulge your habits and THEN do work, but it never works that way. I feel best when I do WORK, then often times the desire for lazy habits is quelled or not there at all.

I'll never be a morning person. I get to the office at 11 am and stay until 2 or 3. I get all of my creative work done in the still of the night. Every 9-5 job I've ever had always involved warnings for being late. It's just not my natural cycle.

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

****. Fail. I feel like an addict, "I can handle just a little bit. I won't get carried away." Even tv in the background seems to start a chain reaction that leads to time wasting, and eventually, porn. Ug, clock starts again tomorrow.

On the plus side, I have been EXTREMELY productive, which is an absolute necessary for me now. I have no idea how many hours a week I'm in work mode, but its almost a constant progression from one task to the next from wake to sleep.

My poor gf, she is normally game for a romp any time of day, but since I started the challenge, she has needed to "close shop" a few times to rest. Seems like my energy hasn't been diminished any with the increased workload.

Thanks for the support, stay strong gentlemen. We must not underestimate the cunning of our adversaries. Like an addict I need to be aware of my triggers (television or idle time on the computer) and create a safety plan where I cannot "use" when urges are too strong.
30 days starting now...
