When was the last time an American-backed regime change in a developing country actually turned out for the better?

Japan (after WW2 - the marshal plan)... Hong Kong (not specifically a regime change, but basically Britain with a strong support of the USA)... Taiwan (official support... then "unofficial"). The Dominican republic. Also, the Philippines after Japanese rule.

Also, having lived through Gulf war 1 and 2; the regime changes in Afghanistan, Iraq, etc... those regime change turned out good for us. The USA has not been attacked like Sept 11 since those wars. The middle east is scared of the USA now. The actual fact that USA could do a regime change on the opposite side of the world was a new concept for a lot of Arabs (e.g., Osama) at the time.

Before those middle east regime changes, people thought the USA was a paper tiger especially after "losing" Vietnam. I remember as a young consultant getting into a cab to go to O'Hare Int Airport, and being lectured by Muslims about how the USA was morally corrupt. How the Arabs were so powerful (like the Viet Cong), that if the Arabs wanted to, they could take over the ME.. and he inferred ultimately, the west; it was just a matter of time. A lot of Muslims during the late 90's thought that way -- a lot of them wanted to discuss it esp. those darn Muslim cab drivers. I just didn't care. I was young and just wanted to get to my new clients. They really wanted to talk about it especially after the soviets got their butts handed to them after Afghanistan... and all the hostage taking.. and the high jacking of airlines by masked Arabs and the killing of Jewish passengers.

Well, sept 11 happened a few years after; (3000 USA innocents lost their lives)... Then the gulf wars happened - a lot more Muslims lost their lives. Yes, a lot American soldiers lost their lives too.

However, after the regime changes, I don't hear Arabs saying that the USA was a paper tiger. I don't hear how the Muslims could/will violently take over the middle east, much less the USA. Those regime changes in the middle east had to happen to show the bullies (Arab terrorists, and rogue middle east dictators), that you just don't F with the USA. now go to any government in the Middle east-- friend or foe, and they just don't want a piece of the USA.... WHICH IS A GOOD THING.

Now would be a convenient time to have back the USAID that got doge'd. They killed it because it was basically a front for the CIA. When that happened, it occurred to me that all world food aid is probably the same thing. It comes from a stronger country trying to exert influence over a weaker one, all under the guise of charity.
