But surely Ryan Gosling, at the height of his career, could do much better than that?? He was literally one the most desirable men in the world at the time. They've been together 14 years, there's something to be said for that.

I would say that's extremely unlikely. It is simply not natural for a young childless man to be dating a significantly older woman with kids. It's not just about hotness and youth. A guy who is 31 would have a lot more in common with a woman who is 25 than a single mom in her late 30's. When these types of unions occur, there is usually a predatory dynamic at play. Like the guy has mommy issues and the woman knows how to take advantage of that. An extreme example of this is President Macron, who is literally a grooming victim.
