What is a Don Juan?

When I joined this forum 20 years ago, sh!t was really different. The men here were talking about getting girls and being seducers and lovers. Like Don Juan DeMarco. Like the character played by Johnny Depp in the movie.

The population here today seems really different, though. The general consensus here doesn't feel like it's about loving women.

Everyone here is supposed to be striving to become a Don Juan, since it's called "Don Juan Discussion," so let me ask you: What is a Don Juan to you?

A "Don Juan" is a guy who's good at charming the socks off women. The name comes from this legendary ladies' man in stories and plays, the most famous being the opera "Don Giovanni" by Mozart. This Don Juan dude is all about flirting and getting around, but he's not exactly the hero type—more like the guy who's too slick for his good.

When someone's called a Don Juan nowadays, it means they're super smooth with the romance game, but not the kind a woman should put too much trust in.

I prefer the term: Lothario.

A "Lothario" is basically a guy who's got a rep for sweeping women off their feet, but not in a good way. He's all about the charm and the smooth talk, but he's playing games and not really serious about it. The name comes from this character, Lothario, in an old play ("The Fair Penitent," by Nicholas Rowe)who was famous for messing around with women's hearts. So, if someone's called a Lothario, it means they're pretty slick in the romance department, but not exactly the kind of dude you'd want to trust or get serious with.

this one guy that attracts every girl is a fantasy though. The key is to attract the type of women you want and say to hell with the rest. I will bet my paycheck that we are competing for different women.

We (men) have changed our approach to dating women, given the invention of the smart phone and the mental wasteland on social media.

There are few things I avoid more than giving women undeserved attention, consideration, resources, and general help.

In a world full of pvssified men, a minority of us has realized how much power we have and how not to waste as much of it on women.
