Is Playboy dispensing with nudity just another example of the femininization of the culture?

www.nytimes.com/2015/10/13/business/media/nudes-are-old-news-at-playboy.html

Let me get this straight - Playboy had been showing nude, but delicately covered up, women during the freaking '50s, but now has decided that to stay relevant, it needs to dispense with the one thing that made it unique (at least in the beginning)? And upon changing the website to non-nude a year ago, its consumers went from an average age of 47 to 30? That to me says that the new generation of men today are afraid of showing (or even desiring) lustful interest in the female body, the pinnacle of which is reached by viewing a sexy nude woman.

Of course, it could be that the sexy side of the internet has groan so immense and overpowering that man actually would like to not have the distraction - or at least not as much of a distraction (i.e., sexy lingerie or bikini vs. buck naked.)

I think it's more of a paper vs digital war. Why pay for nudie magazines when you can just download thousands of images for free? Playboy needs to figure out a new business strategy, but it looks like they're pedalling backwards instead of forwards.

Playboy must not have been making much money with the magazine. Which would make sense, as I have no idea why there would be a demand to pay for something that's already done better for free. They're probably trying to clean up their image for a different business route.

Dear Yewki,
One of the great attractions of Playboy in the past was the remarkable range of marvellous short stories and informed articles...of course they could afford it when they were selling 6 million copies a month...Vale Playboy...Hefner did a lot for us,now the baton has been passed to a few little forums like ours.

If you check some "men" publishers such as "Ask men" (the editors most of them are women according to the staff on LinkedIn) ,Men Health and GQ , you will find the main subject is usually is how please women , while playboy was about pleasing the man. so it seem western men are more concerned about how to "win" and "please" women than pleasing themselves . So I think soon Playboy will be another copy of "GQ" and "Men Health"

Hugh said they were competing with all kinds of free porn online. Just a business decision, no feminine conspiracy. Hugh also said that he felt HE was the one to take the first step toward world wide porn, a move he is proud of.

Its just a matter of money, if your main contest is soft core and you're asking money for it, you will surely lose against those who offer both soft and hardcore for free.

It will probably become like GQ, mens health and all those other rubbish magazines.

I find more annoying such thing exist and be selling, that means a lot more then playboy changing they bussiness model, also I always think playboy would be more like showing naked woman we see on tv we would hardly see naked, but now we have "leaked" naked of then for free they take thenselfs so kinda understand the loss of sales lol

I know why they went this route. There was a reorganization at my local super market recently, and they put all the magazines right at the entrance, so you have to go by them everytime you enter the super market. It's simple, Playboy wants to boost sales by making it's magazine more availble. There still will be nuke content, either online, on dvd, or via a special subscribtion only magazine. But they made such a move to boost their sales and profits by making their magazine more acceptable by wider audience. I don't see how such a move has anything to do with femenization of western colture.
