Master Don Juan
The sun rises and the sun sets.
This is the nature of things.
Time waits for no man. Therefore no man should await time.
Life is the journey, not the destination.
The warrior takes action. The coward awaits destiny.
A warrior takes hold in his life and claims control over his destiny.
A coward's fate is never certain.
A true warrior knows that the direct approach is always the best one;
no one ever cut down a tree by beating around a bush.
Be direct. Meet life head on. Make no excuses.
A warrior loves his way of life and fights fiercely for his cause,
yet he shows no attachment to life and no concern toward death.
His heart is neither soft nor hard. It is absent of form.
To have attachment is to have dependence.
To have need is to be a slave.
True love is freedom; freedom is true love.
A warrior must be empty. His mind must be formless and free.
This is the essence of the void, the origen of the soul.
Formlessness can be neither predicted nor overcome.
It is like water.Form is rigid, water flows.
Form is like a stone. Water wears away the stone over time.
If you put water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle.
If you put water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot.
Water can be still one moment and come crashing down the next.
Surrounding the enemy. Confusing him. Overcomming him.
Be like water. Be formless.
The experienced warrior does not think about a technique on the battlefield.
His body is without form and his mind is without thought.
He lives in the moment and has no concern for whatever end result that might come about by his actions.
Life or death, victory or defeat...
these are the worries of the fallen warriors long since forgoten in the days of old.
This is 'Jeet Kune Do', "way of the intercepting fist".
It applies to life just as it applies to combat.
Warriors die and kingdoms fall.
But the deeds of great men eco an eternity.
The moment is now. YOU are the warrior.
Look within yourself and see that it is so.
The sun has set and may never rise again.
