Des, how did you get out of paying child support? Do you have joint custody (or whatever it's called)?
Joint custody is irrelevant when it comes to child support payments. It's all based on income. She was unemployed for 2 years when she decided to go after child support. However, she shot herself in the foot by not only receiving all the child tax benefit, but also getting my kid diagnosed with two "disabilities" and claiming all the government cash for that. My lawyer advised that child support should be based on what she made when she was employed, and also stated that the share I would be receiving from the child tax and disability should be sufficient to cover what she would be receiving if I were paying child support. The judge agreed.

Agree zekko. I've talked to so many fathers that said if they could do it over again they would not have kids.
That's interesting, I've never heard a father say that. Not that I go around asking people that question. But the ones that I have heard address it, they all say that they wouldn't change the past because they have their kid, and they wouldn't trade that for anything. I just kind of assumed that was a near-universal response. That the love for your child would overcome all else.

Wow. You're saying that you don't have to pay child support because basically the government is paying it instead (in tax benefits and disability checks)? I'm surprised they go along with that. You would think they would want to make the father pay at least something rather than have the government pick up the whole check. Maybe you have a really good lawyer.

Age is irrelevant, but generally, like the forum says, over 25. Yeah I know men should not be worried about other men, right? Well f*ck the shaming, I'll start it off:

- Choreographed handshakes
- Text language
- Cooking steak above medium rare
- Wearing skinny jeans
- Getting a vasectomy
- Sleeping past 8 regularly
- Taking anti-depressants
- Not voting

Why not the vasectomy?

I'll add some, did them all at various times, wish I had stopped sooner:

Playing lots of video games, especially MMOs
Wearing athletic shoes and hats out on the town or to social events (not just out having a beer which is fine)
Watching more sports than you play sports or do hobbies
Being clueless about basic DIY, car maintenance, youtube makes this one so easy to change.
Eating most meals out or fast food, not knowing basic cooking
Drinking more than 1-2 nights a week on average
Doing drugs and getting drunk
Not reading anything substantial (ok that's one I didn't do)
Living in a pigsty

What's wrong with eating good meals at good restaurants? Lots of famous people drink too much or do drugs.

^I've been guilty of daily xbox lately. Games are just more fun than TV these days.

With drugs, I think weed can be an exception. It's all about frequency, at least in my opinion. In moderation it's basically harmless. With new state laws the legal risks are almost nil for a casual user. But you can still get into hot water with your job, or driving, so that factors into the responsibility thing.

Men don't focus on women. They focus on themselves. Womenz will come.

Grown men shouldn't be defined by few words. It should take paragraphs to define you. Things like "confident" and "pleasant" and "nice" are not the things that define a man.

Better learn how to change your oil and a tire.

Men are competitors. In order to lose I must be beaten.

As for children...I hope to have a couple some day. Not for legacy, but simply because of the fulfillment it would provide to me. Maybe there's a bit of vanity in there.

A man has faith. Faith in anything really, doesn't need to be religious. For me though, being a conservative Christian has served me well.

Was talking more about blow, pills, shrooms, x, acid, etc. than weed. Did way too much of that in my youth, and amazed I didn't get into more trouble due to that.

@thread PSA. One thing to watch out for with weed today in decriminalized environments is DUIs. Weed laws get lax, but DUI laws get more strict, and that includes weed DUIs. In many states now, the DUI laws have changed over the years to a more 0 tolerance discretionary policy. This means that you can be charged with under .08 BAC and it have a pretty good chance of sticking with anything .05 or above, which is -one- beer on an empty stomach, or -one- liquor drink, or -one- high alcohol craft beer. DUIs are extremely hard to defend due to bias in the law and a media witch hunt based on bogus stats that has compromised public awareness and objectivity severely. They are double dangerous for men, because cops are soft on women, and men will usually be driving women anyway. Most DUI classes will have only 10-15% women, and they make that up by being strict on men. So there's that.

The new fad in DUIs is prescription medication and going straight to blood tests when the cop is a ****. I often see this in my area now, and it's also very hard to defend because the public has been conned by TV shows and propaganda that blood tests are infallible. They most certainly are not, but in this case truth doesn't matter. This is why many cops go straight to the blood test as a fishing expedition now, and many state police agencies who do the tests are essentially rubber stamps. Good luck getting the local judge to even hear your probable cause motion, and good luck scraping up the 10k minimum for an appeal. State cop labs' job is not to determine scientific fact, but to help the local cops make every charge stick. The training of their "testers" is centered far more on testifying at trials in a biased, dubious way (based on their status as an "expert" witness on intoxication, they will introduce the most slanted, biased testimony to convince the jury of the equivalent that everyone in the world is half drunk all the time, and the judge will allow this; this will counter any video tape that shows you werent' visibly intoxicated at all) As a driver, you must assume today that if the cop can formulate -any- reason to charge you with DUI, no matter how strained, they will. Most in fact do.

How this affects weed is that in several states, regardless of legality, the amount of weed required for DUI is so low that you can get charged for DUI with a miniscule amount in your blood. THOSE laws haven't changed one iota, if anything gotten more strict. IMO and IME in my jurisdiction, you are not safe driving for at least several days after you smoke. If you are a regular smoker, you can likely be charged with DUI anytime a cop wants to get a blood test and charge you. So be careful folks. Never EVER smoke in an automobile or have weed, any amount, in an automobile you are driving. Thinking that "weed is legal here so I can smoke and then do whatever" is high risk behavior. Not a DUI lawyer, and not specific legal advice. Be aware of the laws in your jurisdiction and the police environment wherever you are drinking, smoking or just in general.

My gf got an under-the-limit DUI. She blew a .07 and it's supposed to be .08 in my state. But the cop was a d!ck.
She should be able to get it dropped to reckless driving since she was under the legal limit. I just did 10 days in county for being barely over the limit. They are giving out hard time for this BS now. Get another and it's a year mandatory minimum jail time. My state is the harshest in the country.

A year in that craphole? I would not show for court they would have to find me.

On the vasectomy/kids stuff:

You guys realize that on a basic level, this is the purpose for sex? It's almost as if our only real purpose, naturally, for being on the this earth is to spread our genes. The entire end game. Yeah, I know sex feels good and all that, but have you ever wondered WHY? I am not saying everyone doesn't have a good reason to not have kids - I'm simply saying to look at it from the big picture.

The issue is finding that balance between short and long term happiness and doing "whatever the fvck" you feel like may not benefit you overall..

To use dasein's example, MMOs might be fun but it's unproductive time.

I pretty much screwed up my bachelors degree because of an obsession with MMOs.

It was great for my short term happiness, not so much for my long term happiness, considering loss in superior job opportunities, time spent covering my back through a masters degree, etc.

As mechanic as it sounds most people base their decisions on maximising their lifetime happiness. The problem is that humans are myopic and so heavily discount future happiness compared to happiness today. Thus we have payday loans, heavy smokers and college dropouts.

If you can apply a more appropriate "discount rate" to future happiness against the present day then you will make better decisions in life.
Time is a scarce resource for all of us. My point was that nobody can tell me how to best spend the time that I have - only I can determine that.

We get it.....you're a badass.

I agree with all that, I think it goes without saying that men do what they want in this life. Point of the thread is more fun than anything. I've noticed that as I've gotten older, due to maturity, some things tend not to matter anymore. Another is tattoos......most of them were due to some emotional response when guys are younger and into trivial things (exceptions for things like military service).

Loosen your puckered up ******* a little, Gaylan won't get it unless you ask him.
