after all the effort you put in the gym to turn your body to perfection. you leave the gym do you expect women to look and drool over your new chisled body? is that what motivates you?

and when you dont get that attention how do you feel? dont lie i know you all go gyming pumping that heavy uncomfortable metal so women would notice you.

isnt that vanity. should men be that vain?

Yes, we all like to be checked out and, in part, we do it for women. Yet, and I know this may be a bit of a cliche, I work out for myself: to feel the whole endorphin rush, to stress my own mind and push through barriers and to like the way I look. And because it's fun, too.

Funny enough, when I started receiving some compliments, I felt more uncomfortable than anything. Not that I look that good, but people notice change on you; and since I wasn't do it because of social pressure, I felt a bit awkard being complimented out of the blue. But it's all good.

I don't really think of it that way. It's more of a desire for power than women that motivates me. I'm a bit short (about 5'7) and used to be scrawny as well. Having pencil limbs and being a few inches shorter then everyone else kind of leaves you feeling vulnerable. People would make cracks at me on occasion. I had a sharp wit to reply with, but still.

Now I might be short, but I'm not scrawny. If someone makes a crack about me being short in front of a girl or something all I need to do is puff up my chest and take a step towards them and they cower down and make themselves look like a pvssy. (although I've found they've stopped making such cracks to begin with now)

Men just show more respect around me in general.

Plus I just feel more powerful and confident walking around.

People who go to the gym to make themselves "look hot" are little more than women with penises.

What motivates me is my physical and mental health. As I get on in years I'm focused on staying strong and mobile in my latter years. It is not driven by vanity in the least bit.

Concentrating on the big 3's Bench, Deads and Squats my body has transformed itself to where I look more powerful thicker and women in general regardless if a dude is in it for that or not will take notice of a strong bodied male they will admire a strong looking back and shoulders and of coarse a firm ass.

My barber funny thing before I really started getting serious about lifting I use to view him as a big mother fu*ker he looked a powerlifters body and when I asked him if he worked out I had to laugh when he said he only works out on the BowFlex. Natually he is a thick guy to begin with and pumping up the guns makes him appear big but he is nowhere as strong as I am and much younger too.

I haven't been in there in about 4 months and there is this large mirror and now when I stand next to him I realize I am bigger than he is now much more thicker better legs arms shoulders and traps it shows. And like one poster says you get more respect from men they take your ass serious and at 6-2 230 I really only do it because of the many health benefits of lifting and the women and respect are only bonuses for hard work this is a life long thing I expect to be lifting on into my 80's if God permits.

I don't train for looks. I do strength/power and conditioning only.

AMEN!!

My goal is to complete a triathlon in a respectable amount of time. Sure, if my looks improve in the process, so much the better, but it's only a by-product.

all the effort you put in the gym for some would be to see higher numbers (in weights) with aesthetics as a side product :)

I am motivated because i have goals to be big, strong, and healthy. If i was going solely for looks i would have stopped around 165 lbs with a chiseled body as you say. Not trying to get a 600 lb deadlift. Lifting is a serious hobby to me.

Your question of it being vain could be for anything in life...school, good jobs, playing an instrument. I mean, where does it end?

Women are a bi-factor of many things, but should never be the main goal.

All my drive in the weights room is on increasing strength at the moment. As several people have said, aesthetics is a by product. This doesn't imply eating huge amounts and gaining a lot of weight too quickly either, I am not really into the whole aspect of getting "huge". I am actually more impressed by strength/weight ratio's.

This also by no means suggests that anyone should get to the stage where they are noticeably overweight. Going over 15-16% bf is when the real problems start and it is unnecessary and careless if you allow that to happen. Not to mention putting health at risk.

I am probably sitting around 14-15% at the moment and once I have hit my first real goals which are 2/3/4 on the big three I'll focus a bit more on shaving a couple of percent off and getting the abs fully back.

I believe Stallion' has already begun that quest!

I've know girls who've dated underweight, overweight, hot, average, less than average, short, tall, white, yeallow, black etc.

It truly does not matter. It only gets you your a foot inside the door. After that it's all personality nomatter what you look like. Immagine the perfect looking girl, your type and everything. You'd be willing to talk to her. You'd be willing to sleep with her without nowing her. But what if you get to know her and you find out she likest to suck hobos ****s and do scat porn - an extreme example I now, but hope it illustrates that looks only get you so far.

On the other side, I'm a powerlifter with visible abs hoovering around 80 kilos at about 5'8 heght. Am I big? Nope. Filled out maby and not skinny. I however love the sport and what it does to my Inner game. Wich in y oppinnion is the most important aspect of getting girls. Anyone with a good outer game will in the end have to go around and work their inner game anyways. If you feel good all the time, satisfyed with yourself, not caring what other people think about you, at peace with your own emotions, confident in your ability to succede even in the face of fear... You dont need 80 minutes of routine stacks if you have a good inner game. Working out and eating healthy with enough sleep definately helps you become thet guy. Besides how comfortable is it to be 300 lbs anyways. Not that much. Breahing like a locomotive, looking like a gorilla...

I've done the whole 220 lbs powerlifter look to and still go women. Being a social confident being with humor and an alpha attitude goes along way. And when you deadlift 440 you definately re-enforce the feel of being the top dog.

From a weight/height stand point I am very similar to you fireguy. "Filled out" is a good way to put it I suppose although another 5-10lbs will be beneficial before I properly fit that catefory. Not BIG by any means, but much better than the skeletor look that you see nowadays.

In my mind as long as you are not skinny/overweight, but somewhere inbetween barring the grotesque Jay cutler look, that is all that should matter. At 80kg some guys will view that as "small" or whatever, I feel sorry for some of these guys. Some genuinely have problems with the way they view themselves. At 210 they still think they are tiny and they feel the need to get bigger and bigger. Height does come into play though, 6ft 2 at 210 and 5ft 8 at 210 are two different things.

Mmmm dunno how you can imply Cutler is too big. Once a BBer comes on stage at average height, 320 lbs shredded, then I'll think that's big. Cutler still can fill out more in certain places. Guys like Victor Martinez etc. are way too small IMO.

I've been lifting since 14, and it's a fun hobby. I do it as a hobby and to get stronger, if girls wanna look, that's fine by me. I don't idolize Cutler either.

I'm vain regardless, so if I'm going to be vain, I might as well have something to show for it; back it up with something, if you will. ;)

being vain will hurt you later on. what if some guy comes along that bulkier and prettier. what then? what then when your girl stares at another man. will you go pumping more iron to beat him. vanity aint cool .

Hey lurker, the way I see it is that us here in the H&F forum are not ignorant of the don juan section of the site. I for one have learned to have confidence in myself no matter what, and not worry if a 'bigger' looking guy comes along. If she leaves, or stares at that dude, too bad for her, because i'll leave and find a chick with bigger breasts than her.

I've been member of this site for 4-5 years, i changed my name because i left behind all that afc $hit I used to be. Now let me ask you a question, do you workout?

I don't read any of that stuff anymore. Joined when I was 15 or something and then probably matured a bit and realized that a lot of the stuff was over complicating things. Been with a girl for nearly two years now and I don't have to think about all that stuff. Quite frankly half the guys using all that abbreviated s*** are pretty sad and it is counter productive in my opinion.

I really only come in here. Pop into anything else occasionally if there are some interesting looking threads.

I LOVE the way I look from lifting !! I would be lying if I didn't love the fact the women appreciate my looks. I don't see anything wrong with that ???

Humans are social creatures and looking good helps you socially.
Looks are a great reason to get into fitness however they SHOULD NOT BE THE ONLY REASON to get fit (and stay fit).
