Where can i get some affordable wireless internet for my laptop?

I just purchased a new laptop, and i want to be able to sur the internet while im on the go, what service provider is the cheapest and yet fast (you know being able to watch videos without buffering every 2 seconds) my friend is using ATT but he is paying $40 a month, what are other providers that are a little bit more cheaper ?
I really dont want to rely on stealing somebody elses signal, i want to go anywhere and not have to worry wether i will be able to connect or not.

I don't know I live in an apartment and I get my internet free from someone else in the building.

$40+ is about the average for high speed internet, if you want good performance that's what you'd have to pay.

That actually sounds like a good deal. I looked into it about a year ago with AT&T and thought it was around $60. Probably been some changes. Or that might have been with a basic phone line as well

yeah where i live i cant connect with any of my near neighbors, i get "limited or no connectivity" but i want to rely on my own connection so i can go anywhere.

You need either Cable or DSL internet hooked up to a wireless router.

The closest thing to 'wireless internet service' would be getting internet through 3G/GSM/etc.

There are auto dialing Ethernet modems, but why bother nowadays? If you want free wireless visit any decent coffee shop.
