Great movie. I wasn't disappointed at all. It was even better than i thought it was going to be. The movie was centered around Achilles and Hector, which i liked a lot. There were a **** load of DJs in the story. The underlying themes in the movie were very cool; overral it was a great movie. Go and check it out.

Who do you guys think was the greatest DJ in the movie?

I'd have to say it comes down to Hector or Achilles.

My vote is for Achilles.

Eric Bana is the MAN. Screw Brad Pitt.

What I liked was that they didn't waste much time with that whole talking garbage...

I thought it was supposed to be a romantic comedy though.

i was just about to start up a post about this.

best film i've ever seen. probably because before i saw it, i had my dj theory in my head. because of this, i really felt the strength of the dialogue.

achilles says a lot of things that i took away from the film and some i will need to go back to find out.

1. the boy at the start says "i wouldn't want to fight him"
achilles says "and that's why your name will
never be remembered"

that instantly made me want to leave the cinema and start chatting up burds.

2. he said some stuff about dying not being a fear because he was going to die in 50yrs anyways when priscilla is about to cut his throat. can't remember, but that scene was powerful

3. alpha male attitude: he says something like "many soldiers live their lives from an order of someone else; a leader they've never met" -> clearly achilles is living his life for himself and he's the only one he's trying to please.

A lot of other great quotes like "Immortality. It's yours. Take it!"

4. his actions: nobody is going to tie him down. he has his life set out in front of him and his desires cannot be altered by anyone.

sean bean tries to alter his mindset: "sometimes we have to serve in order to lead"

priscilla tries to stop him killing hector.

he doesn't give two sh!ts about agamemnon the whole way through the film.

achilles is the most alpha male i've ever seen portrayed. definately the dj.

hector didn't strike me as much of a dj- having his life all tied down with the wife

paris! ****ing hell orlando got cast badly. what a pvssy. fair enough he got the girl, but that's only cuz of his looks; nothing to do with strength of character or personality. pansy ass afc imo

anyways, brilliant film.
add to those quotes if you remember any other peaches

This is my favorite movie of all time. The more i think about it the more i love it.

I love the part when Achilles tells Briseis that the "Gods envy us" for our mortality. And how because we are mortal we can enjoy every instant of life that much more. That was my favorite part of the movie, aside from the 50,000 greeks charging into the lines of the Trojans :D

2 characters that NEVER existed in real life.

Calling me a beginner DJ? I may only be 15, but i am a DJ. I have no more to say because i have no reason to prove a damn thing to your egotistical ass. It's just a movie that i happened to enjoy; I'm sorry if that contradicts you and your obviously higher state of reality that none of us are a part of.

1. It's Tyler DURDEN
2. I'm 15 b!tch
3. hahhahhaa ya it is SO hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahhaahaaa
4. What business is it of yours who i "make my hero"?
5. Achilles never existed? I'd like you to prove that. What you said is about as knowledgable as if i were to say "Achilles existed exactly as he did in the stores written about him."
6. According to popular belief, Don Juan never existed either; but for some reason we seem to make good use of "him".
7. Who ever said we were looking up to Achilles? We are discussing a movie you d!ck, which you obviously had nothing intelligent to contribute, which reflects the rest of your posts on this board.
8. Don't like the movie? Say so and say why INTELLIGENTLY; leave the flaming to another thread.

So are your retarded posts on this board. When you have something intelligent to say, come back and we'll talk about how funny your insubstantial grasp on reality is.

lol i came off a bit arrogant didn't i? I just get pissed when people immediately assume i worship Achilles because i said he was the "biggest DJ in the story" or whatever. I was trying to start a movie discussion, which you mocked. The thread is about a movie, so let's discuss the movie.

Btw, i'm wrong all the time, but of course i don't want to be :D

Who is talking about flaming, Viva? I would hate to contradict oneself.

Troy is a great movie.

You are a 15 year old chump with no clue about woman.

I have helped MANY on these boards, who have thanked me privately, through my vast experience with beautiful woman.

Troy has NEVER been prooven to exist........it is simply Greek mythology.

Grow up!

Learning about Ancient Greece is one of my favorite pastimes... anyways there is a theory that Troy was actually in southern England and the fighters in the Illiad were ancient Celts from Spain. The war was not waged by Greeks and not because of the abduction of Helen, but because there was a lot of tin in Britian necessary to make iron (the Bronze age happened in 2nd millenium BC)There is quite a lot to back this up... most of the mannerism the Illiad/Odyssey speak of are Celtic, archeological finds find no evidence of a war in western Turkey but find many Bronze weapons in So. Britain... the geology is more suited to that of Britain than Turkey, and even the name Achaeans means "sea people".

Here is a link to a lecture: http://phdamste.tripod.com/trojan.html

They just discovered an archaelogical site that is most likely Troy. There was a special about it on last night on the History channel, but I didn't watch it. Who knows if it's true?

Thats pretty much bull****, the fact alone, that Homers roots have been traced to the region that is now Turkey screws this theorie.

Anyway, its pretty much always the same thing, Hollywood puts out another piece of sh!t tearjerking emotional movie and everybody on this board goes nuts about how DJ some character is, same thing happend with last samurai, all the sudden tons of samurai threads start popping up.
Hollywood is really the last place to look for if you want some sort of role model, if you wish to experience the characters a little more in depth and less flat I suggest you actually read the Ilias.

Heinrich Schliemann discovered Troy in the 1880s.

Straying far away from "The Iliad"?

How close is this story to Homer's "The Iliad"?

In "The Iliad", Lord Agamemnon and Akhilleus are both petty, but Akhilleus is downright irresponsible. He gets his mother to convince Zeus to bring destruction on the Akhaians until he decides to fight for them. He refuses to negotiate at all. Only the death of his best friend, Patroklos, convinces him to fight.

I assume that, because you guys are crucifying Akhilleus as a Don Juan, the movie did not portray Akhilleus and Patroklos, as many scholars believe, to be homosexual lovers....
