I'm sitting here doing some homework, listening to Dream Theater (prog metal band for those who don't know), and it's been awhile since I've last listened to them. I've almost forgotten the sort of masterpieces they create. They make some long ass songs, so you've definitely gotta be in the right frame of mind to listen all the way through. I do mostly when I'm on long drives or completing tasks that take any significant amount of time. Stuff like this really seems to boost my concentration.

Octavarium
This one's a marathon, clocking in at 24 minutes. Really melodic and proggy for most of the song, but the last 5 or 6 minutes are truly epic. Makes me wanna go out and conquer the world. Octavarium is to Dream Theater as 2112 is to Rush.

The Count of Tuscany
This one's another epic song. The instrumental parts are a masterclass. 19 minutes long

Bridges in the Sky
Not as long (11 min), but more agressive and heavy. Still epic.

These three are probably my favorites, but DT has so much content. The most accessible album for first time listeners used to a mainstream heavy metal sound would probably be Train of Thought.
