Hey I've been dating this girl for about 9 months and during the college year we dont have alot of time to workout or exercise. However, during the winter breaks and summer breaks I usually try to exercise bicycle about 15 miles a day and do the bow-flex. I used to do this for myself but now I think I'll do it for her. I'm not overweight(5 feet 8 inches, 160 pounds). I'd do it just to look more sexually attractive to her and to try to get her to work out a little.

I'd like my girlfriend to lose about 10 pounds. Shes my height but she weighs about 140 and definately could use more muscle definition. I just dont know how to get her to do it.

I have tried hinting and seeing if i could get her to exercise over the summer just like me and she mentioned wanting to lose a few pounds but shes not actually doing it. I don't want to be direct cause thats rude and it would probably hurt her feelings/make her feel insecure. She has complained about how she thinks shes not attractive but my logic to that is, lose 10 pounds but I've already told her that.

How do you tell your girlfriend to lose 10-15 pounds without hurting her feelings or ****ing things up?

I also want to add that there is no way we can go on dinner dates or running dates cause we are 1500 miles apart over the summer.

I want to stay in shape cause tis healthy. Really weight loss isn't the issue here. By wanting to be healthy you lose weight as a side effect.

We have started planning down the road for a long term relationship and I'm not going to pull the "drop it or I drop you" bs on the other thread about this.

So those two options are already out.

5'8" 140 is not fat and is more on the slender side. Most women in the U.S. at that height are pushing 200 lbs. so getting her to feel the need to go down to 130, would be a major task. She can get to 200+ and she'll still get attention from some guys.

You don't mention how old she is, but good luck trying to get her motivated to loose weight when doesn't look fat and she doesn't feel big, specially to other people besides you. Playing the "its healthy" card won't work.

We all have a boiling point in which we have the need to loose weight. For some of us is 20 pounds, for some it is 5 pounds over our ideal weight. Your options if for her to feel disgusted by being 5'8" 140, which is not likely, or you making it a big issue (not recommended). Most people are not gonna get all eager to loose weight just to "tone" more to please their boyfriend. People tend to want to loose weight on their own when it affects their ability to attract the opposite sex.

My advice: Get over it for now. No big deal. If it is, then just break up with her, as you're too shallow to handle someone who is not motivated to please you by having more muscle definition.

140 for a woman that's 5'8 is not skinny.. but it's not fat either.

YOU need to GAIN weight... 5-8 160 is pathetically small. I'm 5'8, have a single digit body fat and I'm 172.

You can't ask someone to do what you aren't (get in perfect shape)
it's actaully close to being right. I think the idea would be about 130.

According to the height/weight chart of the University of Michigan, women who are 5'8" should weigh between 126-167 pounds. Men should weight between 140-172. Here's the link: http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/primry/life15.htm

Hellfire, I think your girlfriend weighs about what she should. She's a tall girl and can carry an extra pound or two. But like backbreaker says, you might want to bulk up a little. Why don't you post a pic of her (Without the face) and let us decide if she's a chubbie or not?

yeah man I'm 172... I flux between 169-172 durning the week, when I swim, then when I eat. I dont' watch what I eat on weekends so I always put on a pound or so, but it's off in a day or so. I'm pretty stocky but if I lost anything now, it would be muscle.

I used to be 150 in HS.. actually 135 and I was rail thin. size 28x 30 pants. the main adjustment was actually seeing myself in the mirror. I thought i was fat when I was still actually skinny as hell.

5'8" and 140 lbs sounds about a good weight. But, it does NOT tell me the entire story.

What are her measurements (chest, waist, hips) and what size is her dress (6, 7, 8, 10, 11, etc.)?

Those are the things that I would personally ask a woman if I was doing the Internet stuff. I don't care about weight as muscle weights more than fat. But I care about size and body shape.

So tell us...

Note: And concerning you...what's your waist size?

dress size will tell it all. I won't go over a 3, but I like petite women.

want her to lose weight fast? just hack of a leg. that will make her lose about 20 pounds right there.

but really, just offer to go working out with her. she'll get the message.

never let girls get TOO comfortable. some girls think that once they're with u and they got you that they dont need to work aymore and they dont have to look beautiful for you.

this is wrong, never let your girl get this mindset. it is shallow yes, but give her the impression that you can find someone hotter and you will leave her if she feels like becoming a fat beast.

this should get her to work.

130 and 5'8 is pathetically small. 160 is absolutely normal, and about the same weight as many very fit men from underwear models to UFC fighters. It's possible to be in very good shape at 160 and 5'8 for a guy; not nearly as easily at 140 and 5'8 for a girl. Besides, all a girl has to do is regular cardio and a good diet to get into prime shape. Much harder for a guy (months/years of weight lifting and complex dieting).

160 at 5'8 and I have no defination whatsoever. He isn't a prize fighter. Anyway that's not the point. I'm sure he is fine. he is worried about his GF who sounds like she is a tad bit bigger than being "skinny"

WTF? 5'8" and 200 pounds for a chick would be a freaking blimp. 150 is pretty damn chubby for that height, so 200 would be whale.

160 is on the more built side of average for 5'8, IMO. And how is that extra 12 pounds of muscle really that much bigger, anyways?

dude... 12 pounds of Muscle is HUGE. If i lost 12 pounds right now, I'd probably drop 2 pants sizes, maybe even 3, 1-2 shirt sizes and loose all the muscle defination I have, or at least the majority of it.

At 140 i was UNDER weight. The smallest a normal 5-8 guy should be, and i admit I'm closer to 5'9 than 5'8 is about 160ish. that's the smallest a healthy 5'8 should be, unless you are jockey or something.

when I cut down before I put on muscle,
I was about 158-161 and I had a frame, the same frame i have no, but no muscle. Anything under 158 an I was cutting into my frame

My mom looks better than she ever has and she's 135.. she's 41 BTW

Agree. You weren't paying attention. Most chix in the US who are 5'8" are pushing 200 lbs. I didn't say it was the right weight, I said that's what most broads look like these days. Huge!

At 5'8" and 140, it would have to be all fat and very little muscle for it to make her look big. She probably looks pretty slender. He want's her toned, so she'll have to be close to 130 and work out for that to happen.

Aw, come on now, there are plenty of women that are in shape, too thin, or maybe a little chubby (maybe 5-15 pounds overweight), but maybe 1 out of every 20 women I see is really a giant lardass 200lbs.

I can't imagine LA being that fat, I thought they were a bunch of shallow plastic surgery anorexics over there. I would expect lots of chubs in like Chicago or Houston, but not LA.

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

Utter BS. I've said it before and I'll say it again, people on this board have a really warped idea of what a normal weight is for guys under 6 foot. Not even talking about musculature and strength, a 5'8 guy doesn't have to be 160 at ALL to be healthy. Even then, there are some 5'7-5'9 guys who are 155-160 with great physiques. Yeah they may not be buffed up, but not every guy wants that, not every guy needs that, and not every girl likes that.

I'm 5'8 and almost 170, btw. I'm also really thin boned, which makes me lighter by default. (dainty wrists FTL)

And most girls in the US who are 5'8 are NOT almost 200lbs. Jesus. America is one of the fattest countries but not THAT fat.

I agree man. I'm just shy of 5'10" with a larger than average (but not large) build, and I weigh about 165 when I'm cut with low bf%. Nobody has ever called me too skinny or scrawny at that weight.

When I used to work at a health food store, the hot girls would always make fun of the short guys who looked like powerlifters. They always joked that it looked like the guys were trying too hard to compensate for being short (plus they always walked around trying to look all puffed up and tough, looking like total tryhards.)

At 160 I was wearing a size 31x30 pants without a belt. Granted, I'm one of the more naturally stocky guys you will met, but I'm not "rippped".. I'm training for the posibility of doing an ironman next year, so the weight will have to come off anyway by default but if I wanted to be 'buff" I'd be in the mid 180s... but I'd be out of control at that size at least for my liking. I like to be able to throw on a dress shirt and not have bigger breasts than my date but at the same time, she can see that you have something under the shirt worth looking at.

Right now I'm 170 fresh off the scale, I wear a 32x30 pants and I wear a size M shirt (without looking like a jackass) at 8.7ish %BF

during the time of year when you are together you could establish an excercise life style. Nothing too strenuous or time consuming, but a regimented life style of excercise almost every day. You might have to suggest stuff like lets hit the gym for 20 minutes then grab a bite to eat, or some other activity that she can't resist, to entice her to the gym.

If that doesn't work, jerk off right before sex, then say you are sorry for your poor performance and that it's hard to get it up for a slob.
