"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

When I find any proverb or quote I don't understand l'll ask you guys. Anyway I start with this

1. "The greatest risk is not to take any risk at all"

I do take risk but I don't get is why is that the greatest risk ?? anyone care to help me out ?

2. "Life is lost in dreaming, and dreaming is lost in becoming "

I'm just trying to have a understanding of proverbs and quotes. They usally teach lessons that can be useful in life since life is a very unprediceable, all I know is that I will die 1 day.

"She Wants a Man, Not a Boy"

You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.

Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.

Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.

Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.

1. "The greatest risk is not to take any risk at all."

Just another version of a common proverb. 'Speculate to accumulate'. 'Don't start nothing, won't be nothing'. 'You lose all the games you never play'.

By not risking anything, you risk having nothing. If you don't take the odd chance, nothing will ever come your way. You will become both bored and boring.

2. "Life is lost in dreaming, and dreaming is lost in becoming."

When you spend all day thinking and dreaming about what you'll do, you waste a day you could have spent actually getting there. The longer you spend dreaming about it, the more of the life you're dreaming about is lost.

And when you go forth and live your life and pursue your dreams - becoming (what you dreamed of) - then you suddenly find your dreams coming true, and you have no time or urge to dream anymore.

1. "Do something that is totally unnecessary and spoil what you already have done."

Everything in life can be overdone. There comes a point in any endeavour where it is done as well as it can be and any further effort will not improve it, only lessen it. Even if you think it would be EVEN better if you did it, or that you just can't do enough of what you've been doing, the skill comes in seeing when it is just right and to leave it be.

For example, varnishing woodwork. Varnish looks very nice and gives everything a golden glow. You might think the more you apply the better, richer it'll look. Not so. Put too much on and you'll start to lose the finish, look like glue and go muddy. You have to finish it up when you judge it right.

2. "Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired."

Straightforward clever wordplay. Saying that love is when you want nothing more in the world than to be wanted more than anything in the world by the object of your affections. That love is when you really want and like it when your girl is totally into you.

It's a tad cynical, whoever said it. Many people think love is unconditional, and this proverb states that love is very conditional, conditional upon being wanted and having your feelings reciprocated. I'm not saying it's wrong, I'd find it hard to love someone who didn't want me too.

3+4. "He who strikes first, yada yada"

Violence is the last resort. When someone has to get pissed off in a disagreement and start fighting, it's because they lost the logical argument and so look to reinforce their obviously lameass point of view by making everyone else shut up and do what they say with a fist to the face.

"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.
