When I walks fast, especially uphill I get a pain somewhere between 1" above the ankle and few inches below the knee. Has anyone else had this?

yeah I have had that before, but I dont know if those are shin splints, I have a friend who had them in football, and for some reason it doesnt hurt when you are actually running, it hurts right when you slow down or stand after running.

Shin splints are more associated with repetitive impacts from running on hard surfaces. If you are not used to walking on uneven ground, you can really tax the lower leg as well.

If you have not done much walking and suddenly did a lot then it's possible.

I would suggest you stretch your ankle forward and back and strengthen the lower leg. Also check out your shoes are not worn badly.

To aid recovery buy some topical iprobrufen for when they are sore. If they hurt REST.
