"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

This is a myspace(email) conversation. I had about 20 mins ago. I wanted to be sexier, but she has a boyfriend. Oh well, I'm doing this for experience/confidence:

.....................................................................................................................................
Aquatico: Hey, since I go to your school I just thought I'd say hello

girl: Hey, what's up? Well, it does look like we're studying at the same school. Maybe I'll see ya 'round!

Aquatico: What classes are you taking?

girl: Hahaha, you mean what classes am I enrolled in but do not attend?

Repoting & writing news
Anthropology
Child Growth & Development
Cultural History of American Film

How about yourself?

Aquatico: haha, you don't attend?

as for me, I'm taking:

1)Musicianship
2)Harmony
3)Music Fundamentals
4)Survey of Recording Technology

basically just the required classes for the music major.

btw, you're black/African decent? I would have thought you were hispanic.

girl: Hahaha, I go to school. I just don't go to class. I hate college and I"m not going next semester. :D

My closest ancestors are form Mexico. However, I have "Black/African Decent" listed because afterall everyone, no matter what nationality, descended from Africa. Life originated in Africa.

Do ya know what I mean? It's a political listing, I suppose...

Oooo, a music major. That's wondeful. Do you play any instruments?

Aquatico: aw, you're not gonna be here next semester? That means I only have about a month to accidentally bump into you :p

as for instruments, I can play the piano and the saxaphone, but I'm mainly into music to be a composer. I have a music page if you wanna take a look:

http://www.myspace.com/jonathanfootman

oh, and haha, i didn't know that about Africa.

girl: Well... If you believe in the Bible, then evidence has shown that the only place on earth that the garden of eden could have existed is in Africa.

If you don't believe in the Bible, then there's always the anthropology perspective. Evidence has proven theories that before our continents seperated, life originated in Africa.

Yeah, I don't want to go through the college motions if I don't even want to do anything with a degree anyway. It just makes more sense to go to an institution and aquire a trade rather than just general knowledge.

You don't have to bumb into me... we can meet up or something.

I use to be in band back in middle school. Those were some of the best days of my life. :D

Aquatico: I was also in band in middle school. What did instrument did you play?

And, yeah, about meeting up, I'd like that. When/were would you like to meet up?

girl: I played clarinet and then moved onto percussion because i thought it was more exciting. hahaha.

well, what time are you going to be at school tomorrow?

Aquatico: I'll be there at like 12:00

girl: I could meet you at the library at 12... by the fish tank. hahaha :D

Aquatico: sounds good to me ;)

girl: LIBRARY AT 12! Think of something to talk about because I know I'm going to be a bit shy... :(

Aquatico: hahahaha, don't worry. It's gona be fun :)
...............................................................................................

Now I pretty much promised her no akward silences (which are pretty much my trademar)k. Any sugestions, or quick tips on how to aviod them?

also critism on the convo is more than appreciated.

"How I Made Sure No Woman Ever Friend-Zoned Me Again"

She calls you when her car breaks down. When she needs help moving. When some guy she's actually dating treats her badly.

You're the listener. The reliable one. The guy who would treat her so much better, if she'd just open her eyes.

She won't. You trained her to see you as the low-effort option — the friend who requires zero risk and zero investment. Every favor dug the hole deeper.

The "22 Rules" break the pattern. You'll stop auditioning for a role she already cast and become the man she chases instead. It starts with Rule 1.

We met at the college library because we both assumed the other had classes to go to afterwards. And I'm not sure if she wanted it to have a date atmosphere (since she hadn't met me before this).

Update:

I got there first and I see her approach about 10 seconds after. I guess she was waiting for me to get there first because she said "wow, you got here exactly at 12:00"

Me: haha, yeah. *extends hand* It's nice to meet you sabrina. *smile*

Her: *smile* it's nice to meet you to. (she then sat down by a nearby bench, and I noticed that she's actually alot hotter in person. I sat down next to her)

Me: So, how long have you been going to this school?

Her: This is my first semester. ( I see that she's a little shy and that gives me more confidence)

Me: Oh really, so you're 18 years old?

Her: yeah, what about you?

Me: yeah, I'm 18 too, but turning 19 in January.

(three second akward silence)

Me: So, I remember you telling me that you're taking anthropology? (thank you, The_Shezzler) Is that like your passion, or just something for fun?

Her: well, I like it, but for a career, I really want to be part of the movie industry.

Me: oh wow, like an actress, or what?

Her: haha, no I want to be part of the behind-the-scenes production. (that got my interest)

Me: Oh, that's what my mom does (probablly shouldn't have brought my mom into the convo, but it flowed well).

Me: (I started talking about some of the times I got to help out with movie production. she seemed really interested.)

Anyway, I'm not gonna write out the full 20 mins of conversation, but it went well, and I followed the guides I read on this site. We talked about travel, dancing, favorite foods, kids, music, etc.
There were a few times where I was searching my head frantically to find things to said, when silences were forming, but luckily she was good at picking them up. At the end, I asked for her phone number, and she "yeah" like it was a given. :)

I told her I'd cal her later so I guess that's the next step.

Pros:
1) about 80% eye contact throughout
2) excessive smiles from both of us
3) she was kinda blushing and kept twirling her hair around.

Cons:
1) she has a boyfriend, so I've been kinda staying away from the obvious sexual flirting. I haven't asked her about her boyfriend yet , or how it's going between them(cause I'm a chicken). But I really want to leap out of the friendly zone and use kino, sexual teasing, etc.

Calling, usually 2-4 days after you get the number. Good job, by the way, on keeping a good conversation. It's a skill that a lot of poor little AFC's don't have.
