Then something magical happened. For a book I was writing about a school for exotic animal trainers, I started commuting from Maine to California, where I spent my days watching students do the seemingly impossible: teaching hyenas to pirouette on command, cougars to offer their paws for a nail clipping, and baboons to skateboard.

I listened, rapt, as professional trainers explained how they taught dolphins to flip and elephants to paint. Eventually it hit me that the same techniques might work on that stubborn but lovable species, the American husband.

The central lesson I learned from exotic animal trainers is that I should reward behavior I like and ignore behavior I don't. After all, you don't get a sea lion to balance a ball on the end of its nose by nagging. The same goes for the American husband.

True. The ironic thing is first off there should be a double standard but going the other way against women and not men lol.

This is a classic case of projection. Women are the ones that are like animals or children and have to be continually guided and trained to behave fairly.

And so this female writer and all the women who think like her (most women) is really just projecting her own character traits onto men. It's women who are the ones that lack character and the ability to act fairly on their own accord, so naturally they falsely believe men are that way.

It's always good for laugh when you hear women claiming it's men who are this way or that way when we know from observation it's actually women who are that way.

I totally agree, trouble is I dealt with her two boys(who were all messed up from their dad teaching them to do stuff to cause us problems) for a long time. When her and I had my girl, as soon as we knew the pregnancy was good(miscarried before), she turned into a totally different woman. And I love my girl with all I have, so until she gets old enough(in my home state) that I can have custody, I had to put up with it. I couldn't bear to imagine her being raised by her mom.

yes both are diferent but did you notice one thing about training dogs is also ignore his bad behavior so he stop doing that, like she did talk in a way you didn't like, you jsut ignore her for sometime, is not what half of people here says for us to do?

LRS is basically a freeze-out, same as what Mystery came up with years back when he got last-minute resistance. He didn't get emotional or anything, he just withdrew all attention and removed himself from her presence. In essence it's a way of punishing behavior you disapprove of. Giving it any attention, for good or for bad, can validate the behavior you're trying to avoid.
