Making millions from a website?

I read about individuals making millions, just from owning a high traffic website. How does this work and how do you collect the money from having a successful website? Is it difficult and expensive to own a website?

I have met two website owners and i was wondering what kind of cash they are making. Below are the websites that each of them own (and NO this isn't spam, i'm just generally interested).

As for making millions owning high traffic website, yea its possible and it doen't cost you alot of money to run it. If you know these guys, ask them for pointers.
