Master Don Juan
I can honestly say I learned a very valuable lesson today. It also goes to show that the 48 laws of power, is pretty much always right.

I've had this situation. That's been building for a while now. Really since about the beginning of the year. But the last few months it's just gotten out of control.
One of my faults in real life, once you get past my screening process or once you get to know me or better stated, once I get to know you, and I start to like you, I'm the most loyal person you will ever find. I don't like to give up on people. Girls are a different story. But in business and in life, I am always willing to bend over backwards for people who I like.
I got a programmer on my team. The thing is, the guy knows I like him. He's not my best programmer.. lol by any stretch. But he's good or else he wouldn't be working for me. I like him and he knows i like him because he's like me, he's a recovering drug addict. In fact that's how I met him. He's 26, he's got about 2 years clean now. I started off giving him little BS jobs just to put some money in his pocket and he did such a good job that I gave him a job.
It started really, about a half a year ago. Little ****. Not turning in work on time. Oh I'm out with on a date, man you know i haven't had a date in X years man.. and I know he hasn't. I'm like okay dude, just do it again. This is money. I tell a client something my word is my bond.
That ****, I can deal with all day long. But now he's not checking his work and his coding is getting sloppier. So I was like okay dude, we've all been there, generally speaking when I"m programming and my code starts to get really sloppy it's because i'm really tired. So I was like look dude, take a week off. Just go lol. Dude comes over my house, kicks it with me and everything. I genuinely like the guy. I want to see him on my team 3-5-10 years form now kicking ass and taking names, making bank and staying clean.
So he gets back, coding is still kinda sloppy but now he's mad because he wants a raise. He makes about 3500 a month and I let him moonlight on whatever the **** he wants to on the side as long as his **** for me is done on time. Keep in mind, he works from home as well. Now how many addicts do you know fresh out of the gate get a job paying 3500 a month? not many. He was very grateful then. Now he's pissy. I pay my graphic designer and my main programmer more than that, but he isn't worth more than that to me honestly. I want him ot be, hence why I'm on him to clean up his code, but he won't.
But none of that is not unmanageable. This is the killer for me. He's a specific type of programmer, without me going into all the details or programming. There are pretty popular platforms that he should be able to work with, that he just refuses to learn how to work with. I'm losing money because i can't take these jobs because I KNOW my programmer can't do them. Anything remotly hard now he just throws his hands in the air and says he can't do it, yet still wants his check lol.
I would even be willing to give the dude a raise if he could just show some initiative. He has his foot in the sand and he doesn't want to do anything else, yet wants more money for it. And now he is getting an attitude with me.
It's a lot like the end of season 2 on the sopranos where tony knows what he has to do and has been avoiding it all season. I"ve been pretty stressed out over this ****, my wife knows all about what I deal with and last night I Guess she just had it lol , she was like bacvkbreaker sweety, just fire him and get it over with. I'm getting sick of hearing this **** lol. She's blunt that's why I love her lol.
And she was right. I knew exactly what I had to do. So I did it. Dude threw a hissy fit. I knew what was coming, he threw the drug use back in my face and I told him look dude, if you ever need to talk to me about your drugs, i'm here as a friend, but I've given you every chance and it's time for me to move on. I need a programmer that is with the times and is hungry and you aren't right now.
MY point being, I did all that worrying, all that stressing out for loyalty. **** loyalty. What is loyalty anyway?
if you think about it, what yo are saying is i'm going to stay in this relationship / keep you around even though right now you aren't pulling your keep.
And at the end of the day, the guy / girl that you are being loyal to, never ever appreciates it. Not in 2013.
And I feel like a 500 pound weight has been lifted off my back. already hired someone else. I should have done that 3-4 months ago.
