I say more power to you BB.

I don't need any people in my life that drag me down, and I see you feel the same way. They may be family, but you don't owe anything to anyone but yourself. Its your job in life to make sure YOU are happy. If your family doesn't make you happy, then you need to either try to fix that, or get away. I'm sure you've exhausted the first option.

Anyway, I hope you and your gf get passed this and raise a happier family than you've had to live with.
