each to their own bro, I like to keep a wide circle of friends for all kinds of benefits. I love the gym bunnies too
I agree wholeheartedly. I suppose I didn't provide enough context. I'm part of the "metal subculture" in many ways, and what you'll find is that many guys in said subculture, especially the younger ones, hold the mistaken belief that being with a woman who shares their musical passions is some sort of lofty, desirable goal. When they finally do get to bang/date a few of these chicks, they realize that they're usually out of their f**king minds, and that they'd be better off cutting their hair, dressing in clothing that fit them properly, and going after normal chicks. That doesn't mean rule out the chicks with the funny hair colors and piercings, but that going after those girls to the near total exclusion of all other chicks is really stupid.

Don't even get me started on hipsters, which substantially overlap with many other countercultural scenes. Annoying as f*** and usually not very smart, the whole lot of them.

I don't understand what "hipsters" are really. Is that like yuppies, except in their early twenties and without the careers as the defining factor? Is it like Liberal Casual Lifestyle for Young People Without Children?

Am I a wannabe? Have I no dignity? I'd give up anything to be ... in the book of heavy metal!

Quoting a good Swedish metal song from the nineties there. I like metal, but I don't overdo it. I listen to what I like, I don't try to force myself to like something because it would make me more hardcore. I like power metal - which is just a way to say "modern metal where they aren't alcoholics and junkies and you can actually hear what they are singing." Intelligent metal. You have to pick and choose what is good, that is the best way. Like Therion's Son of the Staves of Time. Takes a while to get a good playlist with songs you genuinely like, not songs you listen to because you must. And that's the same in every style and subculture, not just metal.

It is funny, I fit not defined "subculture" so to say. I listen to the undecipherable metal all the way over to rap and hip hop with everything inbetween. I'm a gym junkie but I don't wear runners and dri-fits, I'm a metal head but rock the hoodies and rap at times. I'm covered in tattoo's piercings and a beard but I usually wear dress shirts & pants and shine my shoes.

I find it hard to believe how most people dress to what music they are into pretty much. You are YOU dress, walk, talk and act the way you want to not how you think you should. I have picked up different chicks wearing the exact opposite of what you think I should be wearing to go after that girl eg business attire picking up metal chicks even ripped jeans and a leather jacket picked up some classy broad ( motorbike helped on that one )

as far as OP goes.... Go out and find a decent metal club and you will soon find some better ones... because a lot of the chicks you are after dress way down during the day to work and stay employed.

In the words of my good friend Quorthon:

Objects of flames reaching higher
Crossing the sky at Hell's pace
comes a thousand Chariots of Fire...
Chariots of fire emerge
Spreading pure hell on earth as they pass over water and land
All living to ashes turn
All creatures alive they burn
They die as they lay and stand
Vast hills on fire
Thick smoke dark sight
Ashes and death everywhere

theyd be better off cutting their hair
They'd be better off cutting their wrists.
