I would say girls think like that until age 27 or 28. After that age they worry about their value and just look for a guy to settle down with who is stable. Logical thinking takes over sexual urges as they age.
As for the looks issue, I think it gets you in the door faster, and long as you can compete with the rest if them, looks will give you an advantage all the time. You can't be good looking and not know what you are doing, and you can't be brilliant and not presentable.
