I was doing some research on Cold Reading and I thought it may or may not be a cool unqiue way to pick up girls.
Let me first explain what cold reading is by pasting in the Wikipedia definition:
Now how can it be applied to dating?
Well one of the biggest problems for guys I think is when they see a group of girls because groups are very hard to approach, especially if you're with a smaller group of friends or alone.
So I thought, what if one could learn how to do cold readings, walk up to a group of girls, and attempt to do a reading of one of the members of the group. If one got pretty good at doing them and was able to keep up the charade even for a few minutes it would be enough to perhaps break the ice and create an aura of mystery around you. Nothing is more mysterious than the seemingly paranormal!
This could be good for individuals but also for groups as you can do a few minutes of a cold reading per person in the group so you are never required to go too deep into it (and thus run out of general questions and be shown to be a bullsh1tter).
And if your cold reading techniques arent working very well you can always break the tension by saying to the subject you've picked out to do the reading on "I sense your friends think I'm full of sh1t". That could draw some laughs and you can even tell them that you were trying to do a cold reading and get into a discussion of psychics and the paranormal - which are far from everyday conversation topics.
So what do you guys think?
Cold readings: good and unique way to draw mystery around you, show that you are entertaining, and break the ice in groups or even with just one individual or would it never work?
Also for the girls on these forums, what would you think if a guy went up to you and did a psychic routine on you by trying to read your mind or tell you about your past or any other general psychic stuff? Would it be too creepy or would it be a welcome change of pace from "hey baby, I lost my phone number, can I have yours?"
Edit: For the record I don't know how to do cold readings yet as I've just begun research but I want to get some books or something and start learning it over the next few months.
Let me first explain what cold reading is by pasting in the Wikipedia definition:
So basically its the technique TV psychics use to feed you b.s. and make you pay good money to see it because you think they're real.Cold reading is a technique used by salespeople, interrogators, hypnotists, psychics, graphologists, palmists, astrologers, con men etc. to convince another person that they know more about them than they actually do. Generally, the cold reader will make a series of vague statements, will observe the subject's reactions, and then will refine the original statements according to those reactions. The technique is sometimes applied in order to falsely convince an audience that the reader possesses psychic abilities.
Before starting the actual reading, the reader will typically try to elicit cooperation: "I often see images that are a bit unclear and may sometimes mean more to you than to me; if you help, we can together uncover new things about you." Then they may start out with a general statement such as "I sense that you are sometimes insecure, especially with people you don't know very well. Is there something to it?" (see Forer effect) or with a guess that looks more specific than it is: "I see an elderly lady that's close to you, some sadness, and a photo album. Can you make any sense of that?" or "I feel some pain, maybe in the head or in the back." The subject will typically reveal some information with their reply, and the cold reader can continue from there. In general, while most of the words come from the reader, most of the information comes from the subject.
A number of performers have studied the techniques of cold reading and have posed as psychics offering either private fortune-telling sessions or open forum "talking with the dead" sessions in the manner of alleged psychic John Edward. Only after receiving acclaim and applause do they reveal that they needed no psychic power, only a knowledge of psychology and cold-reading. Such performers are known to include Ian Rowland, Mark Edward, Lynne Kelly, Kari Coleman and Derren Brown.
