I was contemplating getting into IT myself, but the market here seems to have more than enough IT guys to fill jobs. Might be different if you specialize in Linux.

The recession here isn't too bad. Some of the really small businesses are feeling it, as well as the ones on the verge of bankruptcy. Other than that, businesses seem to be thriving pretty decently here.

I don't know too much about our IT industry's job needs but I can shed some light on the recession.

Canada wasn't hit as hard as most of the world. Our tight banking regulations kept us protected from all the toxic assets that crippled other countries. The financial sector stayed strong and is getting stronger.

The Canadian dollar is now slightly higher than the U.S. and is predicted to rise even further. We're used to a dollar that is usually worth 15%-20% less than the U.S. This will hurt our exports until companies can adjust.

Our natural resources are our bread and butter. Most people don't know that the U.S. imports more oil from Canada than anyone else. As the second largest country in the world, we're also loaded with other natural resources like aluminum, forestry, coal etc.

It is predicted that when the world starts producing again, Canada will be one of the main suppliers of raw materials to start the economic engine.

We got hit like everyone else but are in a better position to weather the storm.

Cheers!

I live in Canada, as said before, our rescession was nowhere like the states. from my point of veiw, I belive we are out of the recession, and larger companies are just claiming an "artificial recession". (although I am no expert on these types of thigs it's just a feeling i have, I've had friends laid off because of "the recession")

I'm in IT too, but I do not have a job, I'm trying to get my own thing running. It does not look like it will so I will be looking for work soon. You said you wanted to continue studies here. if you want to be applicable for similar rates for students here it will take you about 2-3 years to get in, otherwise expect to be paying 3-4 times what a local student will be paying (although it does NOT compare to students tuition in the states)

I miss India, I was there this year for a month, Delhi, Jaipur, Bangalore, Goa. most amazing time ever.

manish. be glad you got an education because even though the recession is pretty much over up here. it is still rough for us guys in the blue collar industry. alberta used to be the place that i would just close my eyes and pick a spot on the newspaper and say o.k, i'll work there. i would just walk into the place with my resume and the human resources person would tell me about the job, perks, benefits, etc and then say "interested" and i would say yes and next question would be "when can you start?".

this winter was really rough as employers got the power back. you were lucky if you got an interview. most times an employer that opted with the drop resume off between 9:00am to 3:00pm would have already 100 resumes and give you the answer of "i haven't had time to look at resumes yet because we got like 100 resumes in the last hour." alberta at one time couldn't even get enough people to fill any positions. thats why most wearhouses would even pay 20 dollars an hour to start.

its decent now though because construction work is starting up and most companies hire about 50 to 60 workers, so that'll get rid of alot of competition.

i quit my job last year to pursue my dreams but unfortunately it didn't work out and i came back to no work and it was a rough 8 months of unemployment.

because of the recession i have opted to go back to school and get educated because i now want to do something of high value.
