Got my braces today, and it makes a lot of pressure in the upper teeth and it hurts like hell. Im 34 so it was now or never, it was a decision i had to make, because if i didnt use them in the future i would have difficulties in moving my jaws. i will have to use them for 2 years starting today. So how will this be a big obstacle in getting girls? Is it considered a turn off? Thing is i dont see many men on their 30's with braces, mostly kids and teens use them. I would have got them when i was younger but i couldnt afford it. 4000 € is not cheap.

Well, it looks like you have to live with them for 2 years regardless of how it affects your love life. So why bother worrying? I'm not going to tell you to live in a cave for 2 years until the braces come off. You just have to live with it, and work around it.

The only thing I can say is, I know they invented very thin braces that are nearly invisible. I'm assuming that you know about this and that perhaps they're too expensive.

To be honest, it just tells the girls that you're willing to take of your appearance by getting braces. Braces being a turn off is complete myth to me. I've never heard anyone say they wouldn't go out with someone because they had braces.

Let your personality shine. Look, on the long-run...You're gonna have a million dollar smile that almost all women find attractive. Don't let braces bring your confidence down. Act as if you never had them in the first place.

I'm thinking about getting braces myself soon and I'm 20 years old. Braces are for everyone above the age 12.

Women love nice eyes and a smile, so it´s very clever of you. 2 years is more than worth the investment!

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Good for you. I see people all the time in their 30's/40's finally getting this done. Absolutely the right thing to do. I agree that it shows you are confident and want to improve your appearance. It'll be over before you know it brother.

I was 23 when I got my braces, and nearly 3.3 years later, after undergoing surgery as well, I had them removed. I spent part of my braces in an LTR and the last 2 years being single and gaming girls.

Let me tell you one thing: I NEVER had problems attracting girls with my braces, and I used to smile all the time! I've had plenty of chicks in my bed, and some of them even giggled and fessed up how they thought it was kinda hot to make out with a guy wearing braces or how they always wondered how it would be. So I wouldn't worry about that.

As for the pain: It'll go away soon enough. They glued a metal bar to your teeth that really wants to get back in it's original arced shape. And since the brackets on your teeth are bending it, the metal wire is putting pressure on it and pulling your teeth in a certain direction, causing lots of stress on your jaw bones. Your body will need 1 or 2 weeks to adapt to this. Esp. since you're a bit older and your braces are brand new, the pain will be around for some time. Just avoid eating stuff like baguettes or breads for the time your teeth hurt: Chewing is a hell.

Make sure to keep your teeth clean. Use toothpicks to remove food underneath the wire and between your teeth. Use a SOFT HAIRED toothbrush and a toothpaste that's whitening. Without it, your teeth will start to stain and get yellowish. You want to avoid that as much as possible. Good luck with them, I know what kind of hell you're going through.
