Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada? I knew someone who went there in the winter to do construction. I'm an avid skier but that still sounds like it must be brutally cold in the winter.

Yep, that's the place. I work all over the province and its boarders... get to see all the boom towns with that ratio. Not many women are banging down the doors to be a derrickhand, roughneck or pipefitter... they are well paying... but too bad for that damn sexism holding them at the gates haha.

Its not bad now, about 3°C which is oddly warm. I went to Banff, AB for Christmas this year and it was -30°C on the hill while I was snowboarding. Cold as fvck, but tolerable if you have the right gear.

I live in an area where this effect is similar but much less pronounced. With more men, you have heightened competition amongst them which leads to more violent tenancies. Further, it seems with more options women here are not quite as 'nice' since they really don't have to be. You can be really well to do here and still not even come away with a phone number if one were to venture out. Even the low quality, not so good looking, and mean women can get free drinks with not so much as a simple hi. I won't claim that the effect here is as polarized as in the article, but I see the similarities.

As much as we preach that ones life should be content without women, subtracting women from the equation sure makes men more stressed. This is much more obvious at my place or work which is predominately male - the attitude is even more similar than in the neighboring town. Even the ugliest women where I work are in god mode, and have guys pining after them very aggressively.

Think of the movie, children of men where all the babies in the world were gone and it was basically just men. It seems that we need women to sort of ease the stress and tension, otherwise we tend to fight a lot.

I lived in Boston for a while, and while you might think they are entitled, you have no idea what other parts outside of boston are like. Boston is refreshing for me compared to where I currently am when it comes to women.

To further expound my point, I think we are dealing with extremes vs everyday occurrences. When I say 'extremes' I mean that in the context of men out numbering women by a very wide margin. Most can not speak to this experience like myself due to my location of work having insane ratios ( you think 60% men is bad, try 95%). There is an air of negativity associated where I work, and while part of it has to do with the line of work that is done, A part of it also I believe has to do with NO women being around. This can be readily seen when a women in my position of work is able to easier negotiate people to do work for them, and create a less stressful atmosphere in work.

Now its not to say women don't add stress , they do. However, on this scale, I feel that the small stress they add is less than the stress they relieve just by being around to look at.

Again, this is personal experience based on what I have observed in the 'extreme' situation wherein the majority is male.

Exactly according to 90%+ of the comments if men want sex then they're sexist and demeaning women. These men should put women on pedistals (like that works for men)and sit in the corner and be sexless. And if they don't other men in law enforcent should crack down hard on them.

The male hatred and sexism and just plain stupidity in the comments is extreme.
