I can't remember anything except bits and pieces:

A lyric goes, "If a wave shall fall, it would fall on you".

Another lyric goes, "Can you make it on your own?"

I think it might be David Bowie, or something similar. The voice is very deep, a male singer. Its either country or emo.

my pointless searching points to The Calling, Whereever You Will Go....but the lyrics don't really match. Worth a try, it's a good song anyways.
