"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

First off - I know my first mistake is that I'm trying to make sense of any of this.. story goes like this -- went on a trip a few months back to stay with a friend who I had been chatting with. Things went great. From there, kept talking, was told that she wished I was with her (she's elsewhere) and that she could see me, so I took the plunge and went out and visited her... she was real happy about it. First few days, all was great, the last day, things went crazy all over again..She had told me straight up she was into me, then would change her mind, and then finally took the plunge and was all about it, but could never just let herself be okay with that decision.. (whole brain/body thing, ya know?)

Anyways, she dropped the whole 'friend' game, but then was all about needing space and what not. I told her okay, I'll do that... then by the end of the night, she told me no, she didn't want that, but still wanted to step back... and still wanted to continue to get close... SO, I distanced myself from it, am told she misses me... so then things start going casual.. but then she steps back... then we'll talk normally, and then she'll step back and not gimme the time of day.. then, since I'm moving, she dropped yesterday that she wonders if we'll date when I'm out there. I was like eh we'll see, I could see it going both ways... then we chatted normally, joking round and all that, then she falls off the face of the earth all over again..

I kinda put myself into a bind at this point considering I went at it thinking she was into it, which she was, at the time.. I seem to be stuck on it, and wondering what's the best move to make from here. Any thoughts would be appreciated -- seems like she's into it, but afraid of it, but then not into it, then into it... the cycle repeats.. and to be quite frank, I'm down to just lay back and let it sit - but I don't want to completely distance myself, or is that the only thing to do at this point til the dust settles?

"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.
