There's a whole lotta talk about Alpha-this, Alpha-that on this board, but that's a bit vague. I think a lot of guys seem to misinterpret the word and use it as a booster shot for their own egos. Go this route like I originally did, and you'll end up being nothing more than a common prick. So stick with me here, I'll do my best to explain.
Take for example, Joe Smoe, 4'11" and 95 pounds. Joe is a true badass mofo. Joe is dominant and tells everyone what to do. He always walks like he owns the room. In his mind, he's better than you, he's better than you mom, he's better than Chuck Norris and Spiderman. Is Joe Smoe an Alpha? NO. Because no matter how tough/dominant/controlling he ACTS, in reality, he's just a 95 pound weakling who is comensating for his insecurities. The key word is ACT because that's all it was, his words weren't backed up by anything real. In the end, Alphaness is not just dominance.
In nature, the alpha of the pack was the biggest, fiercest hunter. He didn't give a **** about anything that he wasn't interested in because it didn't matter. He was the unquestionable authority in his world, because of that, he had the freedom to do whatever he wanted, and because of THAT, others followed and he bcame the "alpha." He wasn't alpha because he sought to put others in their place. He didn't care if everything happened exactly as he wanted - all of the nitpicky stuff is low status behavior. When a guy says "I'm going to be Alpha," what he's usually thinking is "I'm gonna be in control." However, the NEED to always be in control stems from the insecurity of being powerless. Catch 22, baby.
Fortunately, there is an answer to the question "What is Alpha?" Alpha is the LACK OF INSECURITY. Alpha means that you don't need the validation of others (and yes, people doing what you tell them to is a form of validation) and you are your own and ONLY authority. It's the freedom to do whatever you want and not care about outcomes. That, my friends, is Alpha.
Example: Tucker Max - a man who couldn't care less about anything anyone says about him. While his IS dominant and controlling, he does those in a way that is carefree. Completely secure in who he is and what he is doing.
Example 2: Musicians/Rock Stars - Not just the fame. People who have passions for arts and music - they're attractive to the ladies because they are completely dedicated to their lifestyle. It doesn't matter whether or not the media respects them. They're Alphas in their own right.
All of this is only theory - application is entirely up to you guys. 99.99% of this knowledge came from other people much wiser than I. I claim no new ideas. These views changed the way I looked at Game and life in general. Hope this helps you guys!
