Age difference when dating younger girls

When dating girls much younger than you (e.g. I'm 38 and have gone out with some girls in the 23-26 range lately), how do you usually handle the age difference?

-- Try not to mention it and make it an issue
-- Talk about it freely like it's no big deal
-- Turn it around on her and tease her that she might be too young for you, is "cute", etc.
-- Other?

I generally just ignore it, but when it comes up, I tend to use the teasing strategy. I haven't been able to see a big difference regardless...but am wondering what works for the others on the board. Because I look young for my age and tend to have youthful interests and friends, I have gotten a couple of surprised reactions when girls found out how old I was.

For those of you who date younger girls periodically, what are your experiences here?

I don't even think about it. I was 43 when I started dating my girlfriend, and she was 28. I really consider it irrelevant. I've almost always dated younger, it's the natural order of things.

When I do think about it, I see it as all the more reason to lead her since I am the one with more maturity and experience. She's lucky to have the benefit of it.

Just be natural about it. There will inevitably be times that illustrate your age gap. You'll probably find it somewhat funny. It's okay to joke about it.

I'm 26 and I'm dating a 20 year old. That's the biggest age difference I've dealt with and even 6 years can make a surprising amount of difference in some things.

I would favor a balanced approach. If you joke too much about it, it demonstrates insecurities on your part. But if you completely avoid the topic altogether, it also does the same.

The important thing is that it doesn't matter to you and it doesn't matter to her.

I'm 31 and date women between 20 and 22. Current gf is 22. In China 10 years difference is acceptable and even highly sought after. I wouldn't expect the same in America but my age is actually the most attractive thing to younger women.

it seems like in the US men are still shamed or called pedophiles for dating attractive 21 to 25 year olds after the age of 30 LOL. I think women are just bitter. I'll take a hot 30 yr old without any baggage or the need to marry and have kids...(Oh wait need to step back into reality) any day of the week over the 25 year olds that wanna party like rock stars.

I agree with this. When I was in my 30s and 40s, I definitely felt that my age was an attractive factor. Now that I'm in my 50s that would be pushing it, but I definitely saw the 30s and 40s as being an asset.

Yeah, once I got to a certain maturity level, outside of sex, girls in their early 20s lost a certain amount of appeal. For the most part, they haven't acquired enough depth yet to be interesting. And they haven't grown out of the fascination with clubs and partying. Certainly not all young girls are like that, but for most of them it would be like raising a child.
