Hi all,
Don’t want to bore you with a long essay, so I’ll cut to the chase… I’m desperately lonely, and I need help to fix it.
About me
I’m in my mid-20s and I suffer with depression and anxiety, but thankfully I’m able to hold down a job and get on with my day without too much trouble.
I have no friends and no girlfriend. I get on really well with people, but they’re all just ‘acquaintances’. For whatever reason, I struggle to move from ‘acquaintances’ to friends with people.
I want to go out and meet new people, make friends, and meet girls also. At the moment, I spend pretty much all of my time in the house when I’m not working, which I know is really bad, as it means I’ll never get to meet anyone. I want to be one of those people that are completely comfortable going out by their self, and who can have a good time pretty much anywhere, as they can get along with just about anyone!
What stops me going out is apprehension about going out by myself (as I have no-one to do anything with), and a lack of confidence in general, I guess. For me the idea of going out to a mall or something and trying to strike up a conversation with random people seems a bit strange. There are times when I have gone out with the intention of doing this, but when I get there I feel anxious and/or depressed and bail from the idea. My other fear about going out by myself is bumping into groups of people that I know and them thinking I’m a loser or whatever for having no-one to go out with.
Advice I would appreciate
• How can I make myself feel comfortable about going out by myself in order to be social and meet people?
• Is it even socially ‘OK’ to go out to bars/wherever by myself and mingle?
• What kind of places are good hangouts to achieve what I want?
Please, please, please help a brother in desperate need!
