I'm about 10 thousand dollars in debt with a temporary disability income of 12 thousand annually. Should I just pay it off or is bankruptcy advisable under the current circumstances.

Will it hurt my ability to get an apartment in a year or two if i declare chapter 7? What about making a car purchase?

Bankruptcy is probably your only option with over an 80% debt to income ratio. Yes, it will hurt your near immediate credit chances, but it's a longer term fix. Look at it that way. It beats creditors harassing you with possible legal troubles for the foreseeable future also.
