I'm going to get a wine rack and want to stock it with some cheap wine..

Anyone try the cheap stuff at the local market? I figure girls won't know the difference in a fancy wine glass.

Thanks

i dont know, some women are actually good with wines. Besides, good wine is not that expensive, you can get relatively good bottles at like $10+

if not, just buy some $5 yellowtail or something..

Get ginger ale, mix it with Dr. Pepper and put a cherry in it with those little umbrella things. Or you can get one of those mini plastic swords.

Livingston red table wine is really good and not expensive.

Keep it room temperature though or the acidity will render the taste acrid.
how long can you keep wine in the fridge before it turns bad>?

Chardonnay is a pretty safe white and a Shiraz is a pretty popular red.

There's a California Red Wine we sell at our restaurant called--no joke--"Menage a Trois." You might be able to find it at a liquor store It's a nicely-balanced blend of Cab, Zin, and Merlot, and it's reasonably priced at $10-$12 per bottle.

Some good, inexpensive choices ...

... that are field tested ;) brand variety:

Di Majo Norante Sangiovese (2003 currently on the shelves -- if you see a 2001, snag it!)

A good, very "clean" tasting Italian red. About $9-10 US. Actually uses organically-grown grapes, though it doesn't advertise itself as such.

La Gitana Manzanilla

A rather dry white wine, basically a dry sherry, not nearly so sweet and heavy s a typical sherry. Again, very "clean" tasing. About $13-14 US.

I'm an expert on cigars not wine. I'll do some research though. It'll good for me to know as well.

Bump because I like wine.

I like a lot of Sutter Home's stuff. It's cheap and tastes pretty good. SH's Cabernet Sauvignon is strong but has a great hint of cherry that I love, and is especially good with pasta. Their white CS and white merlot are excellent for those who like light, fruity wines.

Oddly enough, my girlfriend has less expensive tastes than I do. She's perfectly happy with some boxed blush chablis, while I get turned off by the bitterness.

You never put red wine in the fridge.

White can be in a fridge for a few weeks...

A couple of tips on wine...

Red should be kept (and served) at room temp, where white should be chilled.

Regarding grape varieties, Cab Sav, Shiraz or Merlot (and blends) are my favourites. I don't collect/drink white, so I can't make any suggestions there...

Most cheap wines (<$20, but there are exceptions) are made to be drunk immedediately, or at least in the next 12 months and don't benefit at all from cellaring.

After opening, red goes off fairly quickly. I wouldn't keep it longer than about 3 days.

Wolfblass Yellow label (a cabarnet-Sauvignon) is my favorite red wine. It's not expensive and has a very full flavor.

I'm not much of a white wine guy.
