It is all part of the giant scam, controlled by the powers that be and driven by the media, to sucker young Americans into paying astronomical prices and fees, thereby going into massive debt, and to keep them out of the workforce for 4-5 years. Going to college is one of the bigger fallacies/scams/conspiracies out there. Just another money making scheme controlled by the old money puppeters of the world.

Yup. They want to flood the market with "educated" people to drive wages down.

When a news article or school tells you there is "shortage" of people in xyz profession, run from that profession/major as fast as you can. If even by some slim chance they are correct, the market with change by the time you graduate anyway. Don't chase "hot" or "shortage" fields. Just do what you are passionate about.

Best four years of your life? I heard that about high school. Pfft. I frigging hated high school, couldn't wait to get out. Everybody told me I would miss it, but after I graduated I hardly ever thought about it again, didn't miss it a bit. The work world isn't necessarily much fun either, but at least you have some independence.

I worked full time when I was in college so I didn't have time to see the fun side of it. If you are a rich kid whose parents are paying your way and you have time to go party, join a frat, and still get your studying done, it's probably more enjoyable. To me it was just a lot of extra work. Yes, you can meet some interesting people there, but that's true for anywhere, really. Given my preferences, I'd rather be making money.

Over here in the UK most university courses are three years.

I have just finished my course and am graduating next month.

I can honestly say that my time at university was the best time of my life.

It wasn't just because of the sex (of which I had none, although my friends attest that it was great) and flirting with women. I made friends for life, some that I now consider my best friends. I lived by myself and became an independent member of society. I tried sports and other activities that I always wanted to play. I learnt how to cook, and take care of both myself and a house full of people.

University has given me priceless memories, many of which I doubt I would have gotten had I not experienced 'college life'.

University helped me learn who I was and what I wanted, and the path to me figuring this out was what made my time at university the best of my life.

It is for these reasons that people say that 'college' is the best four years of your life, and although I am probably biased having just finished university I agree. If you embrace the experiences that are on offer, you will come out feeling fulfilled.

Before my life went to ****, college was the best 3 years of my life. First I went with several of my friends out of state to a university. There we were able to not only indulge in our passions for learning we also met people from all over the country. I learned how to talk to anyone, "Hey man, what's up? Where are you from? What's your major? " Opening anyone was easy because we were all new. Also the parties. Oh man the parties. I was a sheltered kid who went to church 4 days out of the week. It was a blast.

I met all sorts of girls and since we were all freshmen, there were no cliques. Cliques were for greeks and we wouldn't be Greek for another 2 years so it was all meet and greet. I was a skinny computer nerd who ended up dating cheerleaders because I didn't mind A. opening my mouth and B. being my awesome nerdy self and C. Trying new things and having fun.

My school sucked, my major sucked but campus life did not suck at all. It was my first taste at freedom and I drank it up.

A lot of my friends took college as an opportunity to reinvent themselves. A few went the badboy thug route, a few became the scholars they always were but hid behind a facade of trying to be cool. And a few just became really cool guys and girls who finally came out of their shells.

Also the guys in my dorm, on my floor became like brothers. We went through all of the crazy times together. Clubbing, girls, fights, all nighters experimenting with drugs and drinking, cramming for tests, road trips and concerts. I still talk to a few of them to this day.

My college life was great until I met and proposed to the wrong girl. So many red flags... I also dropped out to start a business with my best friend (not a good move). But up until that point it was golden and I still look back on it fondly. You have to look at college as a chance to be who you want to be. To reinvent yourself and to do the things you always wanted to do. What you mustn't do is become bitter and jaded (save that for later in life like I did, or never if you're smart.). Don't waste this opportunity. This is your time to make something happen for yourself. Good luck.

Same here. I went to a small state college, partied a lot, had fun, did well enough to get into grad school at a major state college. I love talking about the old times with buddies, but now 18-21 year olds seem sooo ****ing obnoxious - def couldnt go back.

It's probably worth mentioning that, even though I had a solid social circle, I was bad with girls. Hardly got laid. 25-26 has been soo much better to me.

Every year progressively becomes the best year of your life IF you are on the path of bettering yourself perpetually

People really need to realize this tenant and live by it

University is a trough that the passion hungry get busy feeding their gluttony for self discovery- as artist, intellect, whatever the aspirations may be. The idea of figuring oneself out to become a figure that stands out, and feels as a separate special sheep of the flock. Of course, this meal is pre ordered on the menu of societal pressure (influence) to 'be something', which tastes lovely thinking about. But slowly the facade fades and their stomachs empty, and they look upon the real world and see their shadows are cast in the same shades as everyone else's. Some will triumph and relinquish the doubt that will light so many other's struggles. Where many felt themselves liberated from a dull and mundane future, will find such notions an insidious jest of dreaming, that will not liberate them from their debt, inadequacies, and their place in the ruthless jungle called modern society.

Do not let fancy places lure you with false hope of grandeur and sway your better judgement, unless you are damn ready to go all in.

To be fair I have been to and graduated university and had incredible experiences. And I have asked myself, Was the juice worth the squeeze? Or should I have just gotten a damn juicer?

Hehehe university was hell for me. While being good at talking with guys I was horrible with girls even after finding SoSuave. I put a lot of this on my alcohol and porn addictions, but also my relentless desire to fit in...which believe it or not, made me look like a try hard. Also, was an engineering student (awesome now), so I was stressed a lot. Many people live in a fairy land throughout college with the parties and lack of career preparation...they get absolutely f*cked up the *ss when they get out. So for them I could see it being the best 4 years.

In my case, I didn't begin to take my own career and life seriously until after college. I had social anxiety, so I decided to get rid of it. I didn't look that great, so I decided to invest in looking better. I swear my facial symmetry and features have become more masculine as I kicked my porn and masturbation habits. I didn't focus on girls for nearly two years before dating again this last month, because I wanted to improve enough that I could be an amazing man. I am now a f*cking catch, getting my sh*t together has made the game incredibly easy compared to college. Girls are all over me now and I'm hardly trying. They chase because I have stopped giving a f*ck about them and pursue my own goals. In college I couldn't get a girl if my life depended on it. Tough when other guys are constantly getting in your ear about p*ssy being the meaning of life...dipsh*ts. Quit worrying about college partying and sex, focus on investing in yourself. Make yourself the man of your dreams and the women will follow.
