It was just some (older) dude (probably in his late 40's or 50's) that I happened to strike up a conversation with. We just talked about biking and the price of beer, then he asked that question. I don't know what gave him a clue? I confess he was kind of right, but I don't see how he could tell within a few minutes of an unimportant conversation. Just experience?!

Or maybe he just asks everybody that.

If you ask 98% of human beings, their answer will probably be "yes". The other 2% aren't introspective enough to realize they're lonely.

Don't read too much into it.

Don't be so analytical. I have the same problem. Just stop thinking about every little thing. I mean, look at your threads:

- I turned on the music--she asked: Do you sit here and listen to music all day?
- Went to a bar; talked to a guy; he asked: are you lonely?

Don't worry what other people say or ask. Just do what you want.

If you ask people whether they have some sort of a scratch or a mark on their left knee, most of them will answer yes and think that you are a psychic.

No , I actually think that's a pretty weird thing to say to another guy.

Maybe he was gay and hitting on you.

he didn't ask for my number, though I suspected that he might be gay? He (later) said he has a wife but his wife allows him to have "the lay of the land" (he's travelling). Well, he left early, thank goodness.
