I've been getting a new pain in the back of my head when i lift. Its kinda sharp, and it feels like the back of my head is about to bust. I first noticed it when i was benching heavy last friday. Then i had again when i was squatting heavy this monday. However, i continue with my work out, and it eventually subsides..any ideas as to what it is?

It could be an exhertion headache, I had this a while ago...

I think I had a cold at the time and my breathing was quite poor overall, so I think this was the major contributor.

Try warming up slowly, focus on breathing throughout your exercise and aim to keep your posture big and wide and avoid stooping. I.e when doing squats, keep your head up, chest out.

You could also try some standard headache medication - aspirin etc.

Mind ended up just going once my cold went which makes me think it was linked to my breathing.

I recently had this problem(last tuesday it started) and its gotten sloowly better, only now has it pretty much dissipated.

I got it when I was doing a 20-rep squat. At first all evidence led to it being a spine issue, but now I believe it was just exertion. My advice is to keep lifting, but avoid maxing out and really pushing yourself. For me it kept reoccuring whenever my heartrate shot up(heavy squats, sprints, etc), so just take it easy on the heavy stuff for a week, and it'll go away.

p.s. it was also in the back of the head for me, and my head felt like a Mac truck just slammed into the back of it.

Also, don't try to have sex until it goes away. trust me on this one.

ok, ok... I meant forward. I didn't mean look up toe the sky, I meant chest out, head up (as in not down)...

Look straight ahead and chest out.. There :)

We're serious about correct squat technique here ;)

No problem, I supposed you know it. It's just to make sure other readers don't misunderstand what is meant.

Keep up the posting, you're giving good info.

Quite a nice little site actually, is that your website? If so, congrats....

Really I should not be giving advice on the squat anyway. Just on Monday I had a knee operation to remove damaged cartlidge and I also found out I cracked my fibular bone from squatting incorrectly. I have weak ankles and I think me knee came a little too inwards on one rep...

Hey, I would actually like to catch up on email as I also run a fitness website and I wonder if you might like to contribute with some articles?

Fire me a pm with your email, we can at least catch up a bit more.

I plan on sticking around, I like the place!

Joe,

If you get problems in your knee, the cause is either your ankles or your hips.

Inability to keep the knees out is usually sign of weak adductors. Try some monsterwalks with a miniband/light once your knee is back 100% & squat wide.

I'll send you a pm.

Yep, I have problems with my left ankle and it was my left knee that went.

I am going to work with a specialist to strengthen the ankle, knee and core strength in general before getting anywhere near a squat rack again.

Check this book too: The Egoscue Method of Health Through Motion

Has been a staple of my rehab/prehab routine for some time now. Helped me get rid of hip/neck pain.

HOLY ****! This became recently a problem of mine too! Kinda relieved to see a thread about this...

and my head felt like a Mac truck just slammed into the back of it.
that's exactly the feeling! damn! my story? I thought it was because of the Endorush I drank (that BSN product, workout booster) and thought for real that since I'm under 18 (17) it did that, LOL... the moment I felt it was when I began doing dynos! when you do a pull up and explosively go up and grab chin up position, do a chin up and then switch to pull up, get it? kind of? so yeah...

that wasn't the last time I felt it either... any solutions anyone heard of yet? you think it wasn't the energy booster? (either way I don't think I wanna drink that for now...)

i had that problem but it went away..no idea why. i think it has something to do with fitness levels or something which probably means it was related to my breathing or something i really don't know and it scares me that it'll come back. it seriously is the most f---ing annoying thing ever.

I believe its my breatheing... The pain always goes away into my 3rd set... I tend to hold my breathe through my entire movement...i suppose i just need to warm up, lol
