My thoughts exactly.
It compares hurricane Katrine to the Colorado blizzards.

The Denver Post

THINK ABOUT THIS FOR A MOMENT.

Denver Post:

This text is from a county emergency manager out in the central part of
Colorado after todays snowstorm.

WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here, in the Northern Plains, we just recovered from a Historic event---
may I even say a " Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a
historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees
in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal
snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to
10's of thousands.

FYI:

George Bush did not come.

FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletive on TV

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5
snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.

No one as k ed for a FEMA Trailer House.

No one looted.

Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.

No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo
Rivera.

No Shaun Penn, No Bar bara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.

Nope, we just melted the snow for water.

Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a
penny.

Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it
to the snowbound families.
Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.

We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on ext ra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a
mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for
'sittin at home' checks.

Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this
early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

"In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48
degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate."

It does seem that way, at least to me.

I hope this gets passed on.

Maybe SOME people will get the message. The world does Not owe you a living.

Nice to still be able to live in your home though, isn't it?

If the world does not owe us a living then theoretically we should not owe our governments any taxes!

That aside, I agree wholeheartedly with the principle behind this.

Although the article make sense, I haven't heard anything about anyone loosing homes in Denver. Maybe a better example would be the wildfires out west, who knows?

While I agree the amount of destruction and perhaps the relative level of disaster is not as great, I think the idea still stands.

It smells like right-wing Bush apologist propaganda. I get stuff like this emailed to me from my relatives all the time.

btw, Barack Obama is a secret muslim Taliban, which is obviously true because his last name is only one letter away from "Osama."

Wow your an IDIOT! ya you read it right YOUR AN IDIOT. You bash Bush who is a republican then contradict yourself by bashing Obama who is a democratic senator who was ELECTED into office so are u saying that everyone who voted for Obama is Taliban? People like you are so ignorant judging that you read a FAKE MYTHICAL propaganda filled book called THE BIBLE your probably brainwashed since you were a child. If that last "Osama" statement was a joke you obviously have no sense of humor and a IQ of a potatoe cuz the Obama=Osama joke is USED BY BUSH SUPPORTERS so you contradicted yourself twice without even realizing it.... tool.

BTW I agree with the thread starter ppl in New Orleans are just bunch of lazy ass tards... they could have LISTENED to the NEWS or RADIO and EVACUATED. But most of them CHOSE TO STAY... and don't give me that "I'm too poor to move BS" if you really HAD to you would have WALKED. New Orleans just shows how lazy some Americans are they expect that just because they pay taxes or receive well fare that the U.S. government is responsible to baby sit them. Well if you haven't noticed there's a WAR going on and too many other issues like ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS that the gov have to take care of.

You're beyond arguing with, but if you believe this:

"In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48
degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate."

It does seem that way, at least to me.

Then you are at a minimum a racist.

Good day.

Bible_Belt, you're my favorite person to argue with because atleast your intelligent.

I agree with that statement. I think that makes me a southest, not a racist. You have to be crazy to say there is not a difference in mentality and behavior of residents (white and black alike) of the southern US and residents of the north.

There are many historical events that have culminated over the last 200 years, including ALOT in the 1900's, to produce the current state of the south.

Problem is, the south refuses to move past it and instead continue in a sad state of stagnate "southern pride"

It kind of reminds me of the story from one of the men of E Co from the 502nd during WWII. He recounts how after liberating france they were disgusted by the apathy of the French in accepting their state of affairs. Rather than rebuild and move on they, sat and felt sorry for themselves.

Move onto the allied invasion of Germany. As Easy Co. begins to occupy Germany they find a great respect for the will of the German people, their mortal enemy, as men, women, and children gathered round to clear ruble and debri by hand as they immedatley began to rebuild and move to the future.

I have been to many sh^tty places around the world and have seen both trends described above. Unfortunately, as I'm a proud American and would like to be proud about all 50 states, the south is much more akin to France than to Germany.

The problem is not that the guy is completely wrong. He is mostly correct. There are more problems in the south. The problem is the difference between causation and correlation. There are plenty of statistics to support the proposition that black America has problems. But their problems are not caused by being black. The causation/correlation dichotomy is huge. The author seems to suggest that if most of New Orleans had been white, then they would have been fine.

Well I still like the attitude of the essay. When disaster strikes, instead of sitting around whining about it, real men should be cleaning up the mess and re-building.

(Or looting and raping, but that's another story...)
