Hey man, jeez I thought I was an avid reader ;) Alot of the books you have on there I'm looking toward getting, especially "Art of the deal." Two books that I didn't see on your list that I recommend; that is if you don't already own them are, "The Four Agreements." by Don Miguel Ruiz and "The Purple Cow." by Seth Godin. I havnt finished the Purple Cow yet but so far its been a really good read.

Out of the box
Quick and dirty, should I read these books though, stick my head in them and eat up every word, and what is in between the lines? It seems like a LOT of time that I could use to do something better, don't get me wrong, I LOVE reading books, but there are more imminent problems being called to my attention. I apologize. What for you ask, you already know, for posing this question in a thread that should stay sacred.

I have never read ONE of those books, and I believe have read many great books in my lifetime. So I am insulted none are on that list, the sad thing really is though, the real reason I bring it up is, those books I read only gave me something to hold, no face value, I couldn't hold the book above my head and make evrybody in a room be quiet. I wouldn't want to, speaking from any of the books I read, would make people laugh, I am angry, because the books I read, I wouldn't waste my time reading a second time. Literary masterpieces, of life and death, love/war, peace/harmony, all those guilded books, that I never truly understood. I couldn't wrap my head around the book, none of them ever really touched my heart. This is honest what I am saying, I hope you can hear me, and tell me I am wrong. I know I would benefit from reading these books. You brought up the subject, did the work, made a complaint, expressed you desire, and gave thanks, in two sentences. That shows it means something to you, I respect that, and I want it to mean something to me as well.

Re:

I made the list, and simply took the time to catalog what I read, reading, or have read. It's not DEFINITIVE. I would surmise that a good portion of the books would be MORE valuable DURING h.s. and college than so-called literary masterpieces that we are "forced" to read. A great work, no doubt, but it does nothing to impact one's existence or ability to succeed/survive.

I implore you to ADD, in a very simply format. By numbering, bolding, or listing. Lots of guys have RECO's, but we all BECOME what it is we think, surround ourselves with, and whom we associate with. So if you're all around tv, boozers, or sports, that's what you become.

What's the Purple Cow about? It sounds cool.

Another book to add is Thought Viruses.

The Purple Cow is basically a book about business and marketing and how to transform your business...however, the points that the author bring out can be used in everyday life, etc.

Hey A-Unit. I noticed that Psycho-Cybernetics was #1 on your list.

Is it number 1 because you value it the most?

Why?

I too have read it and consider it to be the best thing I've ever read. I'm interested in hearing how it helped you personally and if any of the ideas it talked about led you to epiphanies.

It was just how I cataloged the book. I think all of them are EQUALLY valuable. One book, that was truly eye-opening overall was "Awareness" by Anthony De Mello.

I keep a journal, or log book, of all the thoughts, systems, and pieces I want to keep close. I can't say any one thought did it; more it was the repetition of reading different systems of thought per the list above, and doing it repeatedly.

A few more to add:

[]Das Energi
[]How to Trade Commodities
[]The Underground History of American Education
[]Don Juan by Carlos Castaneda
[]Lord of the Rings
[]Every Shot Must Have a Purpose
[]Vade Macum
[]The Intrepid Way
[]Leadership Secrets of the US Marines
[]The Sales Bible
[]The Little Red Book of Selling
[]The Psychology of Achievment
[]Mission in Commission
[]Advanced Selling Techniques
[]Brian Tracy
[]Stuart Wilde
[]Jim Rohn
[]Anthony Robbins
[]Mike Litman
[]John Commuta

It all might like seem like overkill, but when you compare TV vs reading, a cable bill is $60/month, that's 5 books, roughly, or you just go the library. I personally like to keep, own, read, reread, and mark my books. And I just grabbed cable for the football season; I intend to dump and save the cash. Basic is like $20; so the $40 is used for other stuff. To me it never seemed like alot of spending.

And books themselves only need 1 good idea to be valuable and earn you enough money to buy the book 1000 times over.

My thread was deleted... so I'll bump this one up.

I purchased The 48 Laws of Power today. I haven't had a chance to open it, but am hoping to finish at least law one tonight.

Does anybody have any tips on how to read books like these? I was thinking of taking notes... but it seems to be kinda excessive/too much like the "standardized no child left behind" school system that I despise.

Good list you have there, A - Unit, I already have a few of those books, I'll be needing to dig them out and re - read them again!

Anyways, another book I might suggest to be added to your list is Tuesdays With Morrie, great read, that guy saw through the Matrix and defected it and was able to accept his own impending death gracefully, unlike others.

The 5 People You Meet In Heaven ( Its fictional sequal ) is worth reading as well, especailly for the leason on sacrifice.
