High schoolers, heed this man's words.

I know a lot of you - maybe even almost all of you - see your time in high school as an on-going struggle to become "the best."

Don't try to be the best of everyone - just do what you do in a way that makes you happy and gives your life meaning.

Don't try to bulk up and be a jock if you're not one. Don't try to be a comedian if you aren't one. Don't try to do something you're not thrilled about just because you think other people will respect you for doing it.

They key is - and quote me on this if you want to - do the things that make you happy. Don't force yourself to do things you don't want to, just do them if they enhance your life is some way.

Brandon Boyd said it best: "I learned from a very young age that if I persued the things that truly exited me, that they would reward in more important ways, like happiness."

Why wait for a new year, start now, it's the same if it's 25th dec or 1st jan.

AND for the guy who said that he can gain 20 pounds of MUSCLE in few months I must burst his bubble because it is far from possible, especially in natural way (NO STEROIDS). If you gain that ammount of MUSCLE (not weight) in year you can be pretty damn happy.

good post Cablelight

I am going on the road less travelled but I still want to weight lift alot more and try to get some more numbers. Already been doing that awhile ago too. :D

The one thing that I would really like to do is be more sociable.

1.) weight lift more
2.) get more numbers
3.) ditch crap mates and get newer better friends
4.) play baseball all year long

Why wait for a new year, start now, it's the same if it's 25th dec or 1st jan.
That’s not the point. The point of this is to make some actual goals and hold yourself to them, and they are just called resolutions for the new year. But that is a good point. Start on these resolutions NOW, don’t wait for the new year.
Don't try to do something you're not thrilled about just because you think other people will respect you for doing it.
Yup, you definitely have to want it for yourself and not merely for what others will think of you. I’ve learned that everything you do in life is for your own self-satisfaction, for you own benefit, and to please yourself, never merely for hopes of impressing others. If you fall into that trap you will always worry about what others think of you and you will be measuring yourself on what others think of you. You will never be happy and you will only be dependent on them to tell you how impressed they are.

But this is a really good list. I learned that one of the most important traits of a person is your WILL, your desire for success and a better life. If you have no will and no desire, you will never get better. If you ever quit or give up, you will never get what you want and you will never get a better life. You will be stuck in the same mediocrity, and you will live in denial, never experiencing the self-satisfaction of sticking to something and completing it. If anyone has any more, then post, and if you already posted, stick to it and accomplish what you said you would accomplish.

TheCalmGuy,
I see you have the resolution "Study one hour every day." I suggest you try to rephrase that to "Do all the studying I have to do 2 weeks before it's due" or something along those lines.

The way you stated it there just means that you aren't going to be able to maintain it, because you will either study too little because you should study more, or you don't have anything to study so you just forget that one hour of studying for a few weeks and then never think of it again. Trust me, I have seen several people think that. They keep it up for about a month (usually less) and then give it up. The goal should be to get smarter anyway, not just to study.

Oh, and welcome to the board as well :D

I havnt't done these yet, but here's a rough outline:

1) Achieve a 315lbs bench (we'll figure out the squat, deadlift after I max out) @ under 180lbs

2) Drop 5% of body fat

3) Achieve my 90% average (need 2% more)

4) Increase my baritone range into a tenor range by bi-weekly training

5) Get my business off the ground, and complete at least five projects.

6) Become the man I'm destined to be
