I recently had a small cavity filled on one of my bottom teeth. I had received a porcelin filling. The dentist is a woman by the way(yeah, I should've known better, but my dad goes to her and said he never had a problem with her work). Several days after the procedure, my tooth began bothering me whenever I ate. So, I go back to her and she tells me it sounds like I need a "sealer"(more filling). Ok, so I get that taken care of. A day later, I run into the same problem, my tooth is still bothering me whenever I eat. I schedule another appointment, meet with the dentist, and she puts another coating of "sealer" on it. Ok, so I'm thinking, this should do it, this should be the last time it bothers me. But to my surprise, I was wrong again. Everytime I've asked her what the problem was, why my tooth is still bothering me, all she could do was throw her hands up in the air like an idiot. Some dentist here, who has graduated dental school, who can't even offer me a possible explanation as to why my tooth is still sensitive. I haven't gone back to her, as she's a f*ck-up who sadly somehow made it through dental school. Gee, I can imagine how that happened. On to the good part now:

I called this new dentist that several people in my outside family use. Supposedly he's good and nobody's had any negative experiences with him. I just got off the phone with him and explained my exact situation to him. I swear to God, first thing he tells me, without me saying anything about my dentist, is, "That's a woman for ya". I spent 20 minutes on the phone with him as he explained to me how women are the worst doctors and dentists. He said, he can't tell me how many f*ck-up woman doctors are out there who don't know what the hell they're doing. The guy tells me, he graduated with an attractive woman in dental school, who DID NOTHING the whole time she was in dental school, as the INSTRUCTOR, cruised her along(she was sleeping with him). Real f*ckin' scary. I mean, when it comes to someone's health, you don't f*ck around, it's no joke. He told me this woman he graduated with EVEN GRADUATED IN THE TOP 5%. I couldn't believe it! He even went on to tell me how her husband is a very well-regarded dentist, who countless times had to BAIL her out of her f*ck-ups. I've always known women got catered to hardcore in life(that's pretty obvious), but not when it comes to medical or dental school, or any kind of schooling that is of a serious nature. This is the society we live in guys, it's real scary. What men will do for hot women, is INSANE! Absolutely INSANE! Yeah, I don't get much action either, but I'd never go to this extreme. This is serious business.

Cool dentist by the way, seems like a good guy.

as a med student...i find this pretty hard to believe....especially the "graduated in the top 5% of her class" due to people helping her cruise along part. we get standardized exams administered and graded by an outside source. I can see how in the clinical years they may have been able to slide a bit...but you still have standardized written and clinical board exams you have to take to get licensed.

I thought he had said she graduated in the top 5%. Maybe I heard him wrong, but I thought that's what I had heard.

I think you just had a "terrible dentist"....I don't think it had a lot to do with her being a woman. Medical/Dental school admissions screening process isn't perfect and they let lot of idiots through....more idiots than you can imagine. Luckily though, these idiots are in a very small minority compared to the competent doctors/dentists.

Ironically, I have a story to share about a terrible female doctor.

My friend had pain in his lower right abdomen all of a sudden. He felt like somebody was constantly stabbing him there. Most of you've already guessed what it is....his appendix burst.

He went to this female doctor. She checked him out and thought nothing was wrong with him. She told him that she'd prescribe him some mild painkillers. And that he go home, lay down, and get some rest. My friend pleaded with her that the pain is unbearable and this is like nothing he has ever felt and to help him.

She insisted that he take the meds and rest.

Luckily, my friend isn't an idiot and told her to call him an ambulance to take him to the ER. He realized that this doctor wasn't going to do anything for him.

When he got to the ER and got checked out by an ER doc (a male), he immediately figured out what was wrong. After the surgery, my friend was told that had he waited couple of more hours, his condition would be more serious because his appendix was just ready to burst when they opened him.

I jokingly told my friend that well hey if he had been hurt really bad because of the first doctor, then he would have a pretty strong case for malpractice against her.

I'm surprised someone, a dentist no less, would tell you this, but I believe it. I've been saying for a long time that this is what AA and all this group propaganda for preferential treatment results in. I've been saying that college give women preferential admission, preferential grading and just preferential treatment in general. I also belive it because in dental school it's very hands on and a lot of clinical and dental lab work and I wouldn't be a bit surprised that an attractive girl could get by with slacking off. The thing is even if a woman has good grades and putting side the biased grades women get, women don't have much skill at putting technical skills to real life practice.

Another problem with women healthcare professionals is like everything with women it's personal. If they don't like you for some reason even a trivial or base less one it effects what kind of care they provide you. So here you come along obviously a straight, single young male, and she may very well been brainwashed in her undergrad social studies that men are the devil. My experience with female health professionals is that a lot of them are just not senstive to male health interest and give mediocre care.

sure you'll find some bad male healthcare professionals and good female ones, but you'll find a lot more bad female ones and they cut a man out thanks to AA. Women are just flooding the healthcare profession and most of them are just after the money. There's no one more entitled and b!tchier than a woman who's financially independent.

I've always said too(even posted about it in the past) that women must make lousy doctors, ESPECIALLY Psychiatrists/Psychologists/Counsellors. Knowing that a lot of them work in the field of Psychology is a very scary thing.

The biggest attention wh*re I've ever come across yet, was a Psych. student in Med. school, and I'm not even bullsh*ting.

I actually think the issue lies with the fact that in University the majority of marks is based on study/ theoretical work and this is where women overtake men (they do seem to study far more) they do however always seem to blow out in the practical work which unfortunatly for them is the vast majority of a medical career. Seems to be a bit of a flaw in the system if you ask me and should be reversed. Atleast this is what I've noticed anyway.
this is spot on - girls do better on exams cause all you have to do is memorize and girls are great with that

Which is why girls usually pick up langauges faster

But when it comes to applying the knowledge to real life - this requires analytical skills and men have the edge there

I have a female doc. While I don't think she is the absolute BEST doctor in the world, I like her because she spends time and listens, is willing to explore treatment options, etc. Too many doctors only half ass listen to you then haul ass out of the room when your 5 minutes is up.

MOST doctors are adequate at best. I know....my mom works at a hospital. And I know from personal experience seeing some quack who would do nothing but throw medication at me, just to see a specialist who diagnosed me accurately within 5 minutes of seeing me. No $60 a month meds and office visits every 6 weeks.

Incidentally my dentist is a male, and has to be one of the best in the business. one of the best health care professionals who has ever worked on me

One of the problems with the white[composite] fillings is they shrink by about 2%-some new ones only 1%. BUT if you had to patch a hole in your wall, would you like something that shrinks or something that expands by 1/2 a %[amalgam-aka silver fillings or mercury fillings by someone who wants to do the more expensive white] They are about 10x more likely to be sensitive and 5 times more likely to get recurrant decay. SHe probably left it too high-harder to see if you left some on the tooth where it didn't belong. So adding to it didn't help.

Update:

I wanted to say I met with my dentist today, and I actually misheard him the first time; it was only the INSTRUCTOR that cruised her along(as she was SLEEPING with him, SUPRISE, SUPRISE!), not the students. And I was right, he told me that she graduated in the top 5% of the class.

Went to the new dentist today. He actually told me the possibilities could include:

1. When she filled the tooth, she might not have filled it good enough, leaving an "air-pocket". He said he's leaning more towards this explanation.

OR

2. She might have irritated the area where the nerve is(that area begins with a "P", I can't remember the name though). He said to wait 3 weeks to see if the tooth improves. If not, he'll have to take out the filling, and re-do it.

I've heard that porcelean onlays and inlay fillings are the most expensive and best, followed by the white composites and last amalgam. Amalgams supposedly last the longer than composties but I've heard the tooth has to be drilled at an angle to hold the amalgam, weakening the tooth and making it more likely to break and they can leak and decay can set in between the filling. So over time you end up potentially losing your whole tooth when the amalgam filling "wears" out. Plus there's the issue of mercury and other heavy metals in the amalgam. The ADA admits "some" mercury can escape. Any mercury is toxic. They're not going to admit the fillings are toxic ebven if they knew for sure. Also amalgams look like total crap in your mouth.

I'm not sure how well composties would hold up on molars but I don't like amalgams. I'd go with porceleans but they're really expensive.
