Why is deception detection important: the skill-set may prove useful when hiring potential employees, employee theft, revealing whether or not your future spouse/girlfriend truly loves you or is after your money. Dealing with your stock broker, sales rep, lawyer, ex-wife, car dealer, mechanic, scam artist, etc.
Lie detectors (not an accurate name) have come a long way since their conception. Back in the day, they used velcro attachments around your fingers and any deviation (in the annoying continual audio pulse) would indicate a physiological change. Polygraphs soon became the standard testing for deception and were a little more accurate but not much. Even today there is still much controversy over the validity of said devices. As the computer-age continues to advance we have seen enhancements; voice stress analyzers, facial micro expression detectors, pupil diagnostics, body language, micro temperature gauge, syntax word usage, etc. The human factor is still the best indicator when detecting deception.
PATHOLOGICAL LIAR-these types got it down to a art form. Very smooth, calm, almost everything they spew contains some form of deception. When they get bored they often allow some truth to slip out.
IN THE FIELD-these are people that know how to conceal the truth. They may work in the industry, done extensive research, practice regularly. To them telling the truth is at their discretion.
BASIC LIAR-these types often resort to lying to make themselves feel important, make their stories sound more interesting, when questioned, various wrong doings, need or hiding something from you, etc
OCCASSIONAL LIAR-these types do not like to lie, they may lie to avoid confrontation, when pressed for time, to avoid hurting a persons feelings/ego, to conceal a surprise, age, weight, etc.

F) THINK-when reflecting for an answer do complex math in your head, think of a scary memory, horny, etc, to mislead electronic detectors.
G) DRUGS-certain muscle relaxers, drugs can assist in maintaining composure, physiological responses. Botox can fool micro expression analysis.
