New website tracks lovesick travellers

I'm astounded at this - really. Even in my worst AFC moments, if I've managed to enjoy sitting next to any woman for a 6 hour flight and I find her attractive, I've got her number. Who wouldn't? It really is the definition of easy; you have confined space, one-on-one interaction, close physical proximity, endless opportunity for privacy, you can immediate carry on to drinks/dating chances after the flight - I mean, c'mon!!! It's all there... she's practically begging you for a chance to continue your meeting after all that.

Apparently though, thousands upon thousands of men miss this chance, and regret it later.

astounding...

What's worse, and the biggest lesson here, is that so few of these lonely AFC's ever get to hook up with their escaped target. Once she's gone, as Natalie Portman so forcefully put it in Black Swan, "she's GONE!!!!!".

"The site, which is the brainchild of Sydney businessman Will Scully-Power, is yet to declare a match but he says more than 30 per cent of visitors are staying for more than 10 minutes, indicating they are "highly engaged" in their search.

Scully-Power met his own girlfriend on a plane and says he was encouraged by figures showing 4400 people a month type the search term "met on a plane" into Google".

Yet to declare a successful match-up.... that's some kinda hit rate isn't it? Women who have met you, talked to you, shared your personal space, ideas, thoughts all that time, given you indications that they like you, and yet you haven't followed through? Yeah, they are then RUNNING to this site to try and find you again because they can't wait to have an AFC like that in their lives.

sheesh....

See, interact, close. You must close. Or end up like these lonely chumps - searching the frikkin internet for hours, trying to find her again.

She's gone.

You want more evidence that women you let escape this way automatically peg you as AFC's (and therefore not worth their time)?

There's a free daily commuter newspaper released in Melbourne call MX. In it, a column called 'Here's Looking At You' tracks the everyday lonely hearted AFC's who have missed chances to hook up with women all across this city.

MX Masthead

Guys (and a few girls it must be noted) write in constantly about missed chances. Here's one of the daily examples:

Here's Looking At You column

Sad isn't it - chance after chance squandered. But hey - maybe the ladies will read this column and come running back? There's got to be some hope right?

Nope. Zero. But don't take my word for it - let's hear from the ladies themselves:

Public Letters

A year ago, MX started running ads in their newspaper asking for anyone who had met through the Here's Looking At You column, to please come forward and get some publicity about their amazing 'found' love story. They advertised and they advertised. Eventually, 6 months later they ran a story. Not ONE example of love was shared. No-one had met their partner in this way - instead, they had to resort to interviewing people on the street about interesting and romantic ways they had actually met instead.

To this day, no story has been run (to my knowledge) of any success from trying to retrospectively hook-up this way thru MX.

You MUST close.

Location
Eastern Time Zone where it's always really late
Very true. I cringe when I see the "Missed Connnections" part of say craigslyst.

Example:

"Our eyes met last Thursday at the deli counter of xyz grocery store. Sorry I was too shy to approach. I was the one in the corner with the white baseball cap who bought a pound of cheese. Please email me and we can talk."

What could the success rate be here, maybe 0.001 percent lol?

Once she's gone, the odds of finding her again are very very remote.
