Is in your nation mandatory to use a safety helmet when riding bikes?

As title,here in Europe its almost impossible to ride a motorbyke without any safety helmet and dont get any attention from police.
Is it the same in America?

helmet laws vary by state, in the US. Some states only require kids to be helmeted.

My state doesnt require a helmet unless you have only your learner's permit and not your offical licence.
