I read your post before you deleted it. You reacted wrong, just as you reacted wrong by deleting your post.
The girl thought you were a player because your circumstances violated the impression you were going for, but things may have been different if you had set the impression from the very beginning that you were not going for exclusivity—yes, I know your circumstances were sprung on you. Chumping out on her by flooding her with compliments and telling her "oh it's not like that" or "we're just friends" only solidified the nail in your coffin.
