Hi :)

I have a little bit of a gut and I tried to get rid of it
by walking 2- 4 miles a day for something like 3 months
and nothing happened. I didn't lose anything.
I also used to ride a bike alot at the same time as well
but that didn't get rid of it.

Any tried and true methods that will get rid of this?

Thanks for any help.

What does your daily food intake look like?

What happens is a lot of people do the jogging work and neglect the kitchen work. They go out and run themselves into the ground, work up an appetite, and come home just to eat the wrong foods and render the walking/jogging useless. It's a 2 steps forward 1 step backward type deal. To get your engine running on all cylinders, you have to balance your weights/cardio/nutrition.

Diet is #1. Eating well and doing no exercise is much better than exercising and eating poorly. Combine both a good diet and exercise and you'll be good.

ive taken up jogging and my midsection is getting leaner. its crazy how jogging / running changes your body. heck, my hair is suddenly getting thicker and healthier looking (not that it was bad before, but now its looking like it did when i was 19).

ive always hated running, but since i quit smoking i forced myself to do it. now i love it. its damn hard but it really transforms my body in ways that no other cardio does.

There's your problem. You wanna lose the gut, lose the McDonald's. Pizza. Mac And Cheese etc. etc., doesn't matter how much your walking you need a much stricter diet than that.

most of your diet is trash. if you want to lose bodyfat in a big way at age 37 and keep it off, you need to explore more meat & veggie combos with an emphasis on the sprouts, brocolli, cauliflower & green beans.

the rice, pasta, chex cereal, french fries, pancakes, stove top, gaorade & pop must go immediately. all are terrible refined carb sources full of starch & sugar your aging body isn't prepared to burn off.

add weightlifting to your exercise.

add fish and/or fish oil to your diet for the omega-3 fats.

there's much more but these are the first steps...

I got a couple questions myself about diet

I keep hearing about these starchy carbs that u should stay away from at all costs.. rice, pasta, potatoes.. should i not take em at all? or just not b4 sleeping (dinner)?

Is it okay to eat a mcdonalds like once every 2 weeks (same with pizza)?

Also i eat a full plate of salad 5 days a week.. is that enuff?

Im 16 and trying to cut up btw.. i got some muscle/weight (more muscle than fat tho :D) when i started eating pizza late at night 4 times a week and doing some lifting of course..

Yup, what everyone has said already.
Half your diet looks pretty shoddy.

Plus, approx what % of your intake
is pizza and McDonald's and other fast
food?

Layoff the pop altogether, that crap,
even the diet, is just poison. Replace it
with water, tea...you'll find that
you can get used to drinking water with
meals really easily. Minimize the fruit
juice too, that stuff is not the greatest.

Seems like you do good with the
veggies but I think you should snack
more on fruits and nuts...personally, I
munch on pistachios and almonds with
grapes and berries thrown in for variety.

Cardio is fine, but you need to increase
your muscle mass as well, especially at
your ripe old age

Lastly...do you drink? Beer, especially?
You didn't list any alcohol and a lot of
people don't count that as food but in heavy
doses at our age, that stuff just
adds inches to the waist.

there's a world of difference between a 39 year old trying to lose significant fat and a 16 y.o. trying to "cut up"...

at 16, your hormones are primed for the best muscle growth of your life. you can keep the trashy carbs & add bulk all around, you can trash the carbs and cut up, or you can put together a real diet & program that will add muscle and slowly peel away excess fat. choice is yours.
